OK.
I have donned my asbestos outfit. There is always a puzzler when Microsoft refers to "bogus copies" of Windows.
I have visions of hundreds of industrious Asian programmers randomly stringing 000s and 11111s together, packaging it in authentic-looking Windows" boxes and finding a never-ending stream of suckers to sell them to.
Is that about right?

nah, a guy makes an ISO copy of an installation disc, copies it to a blank cd, runs the cd-rom over a laser labeler makes a key generator program randomly assigning a working key for the software puts it in a cheap cardboard box and sales it. No guys needed to type code for it, microsoft did all the work already.

I'm sure you heard about the big bust in Asia (Singapore?) where millions of dollars worth of overclocked AMD CPUs had been re-badged as higher rated CPUs and being sold for large profits?
Like I say, counterfeiting would have 90% of the incentive taken out of it if M$ would simply lower the ownership cost to less than $50.
