GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) Authorities say a commuter train smashed into an SUV left on a crossing by a suicidal man this morning in Glendale, derailed and crashed into another train. Ten people were killed and more than 100 injured.
Glendale Police Chief Randy Adams says the SUV driver, identified as 26-year-old Juan Manuel Alvarez of Compton, changed his mind about suicide and left the vehicle before it was hit. He says the man will be charged with homicide.
Adams says terrorism was not involved.
The injured have been taken to 15 different hospitals.
Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn told a 10:15 a.m. news conference, "Words can't describe when you look into the wreckage of those cars the terrible violence that would have been done to people who were inside those cars."
As I watched the news reports of this horror unfold this morning, I could have told you -- with 90% certainty -- Hispanic male. The name was just issued in this report.
SUVs kill again.
There's no punishment severe enough.
Once again, a killer SUV claims more victims. When will these horrible vehicles be banned?
Is he in the U.S. legally?
I don't know why he needed attempt suicide by train. Just walking the streets of Compton should have been enough.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca would agree with you; he could barely contain his rage this morning. A 23-year veteran sheriff's deputy was killed at the scene . . .
I have a few of predictions.
1) The perp changes his story to claim the SUV stalled on the tracks. This allows everyone to sue the manufacturer and the railroad for damages.
2) The immigration status of the perp is never reported.
3) La Raza will form a legal defense fund, and attack the police and railroad for being racists.
That is not known at this time. These are the current updates; we should be able to find out soon.
And he thought he was suicidal before? Bet he wished he stayed in the SUV now...what a horrible, tragic event...prayers to the victims and their families...
Its not the vehicles fault. Heck, he could have left a Honda on the tracks and it would still have derailed.

How tragic. Let's hope he's not a recent convert to Islam on top of it. Al qaeda is said to be recruiting in Mexico. Bad enough he was suicidal, but now he's homicidal as well, and 'survived' his attempt.
