You will spoil me with your kindness. The guy, Thomas P. M. Barnett, is quite abrasive and unpleasant fellow (I have seen him on C-SPAN), but he is on something here.
We ended up, unwittingly but anyway so, as a world's sheriff. Like in the westerns, a strong good guy is thrust into the situation when he has no choice but to pick up the badge.
We better learn to deal with this reality and have people trained and prepared to handle it: peace-after-the-war-corp.
Also he's confused about the expansion of the U.S. -- while free trade agreements, partnerships, etc, will expand, the EU is NOT proof that the world is moving toward consolidation -- rather, states with distinct cultures and histories like Eritrea and Bosnia have broken away from conglomerates. There's no need for Cuba, et al, to join the U.S. They would just suffer a loss of freedom.
