Along with borrowed books, Virginians can continue to take guns into public libraries.

The Senate Local Government Committee defeated 9-6 yesterday a bill that would let local governments ban guns from libraries. A House committee dumped similar legislation last week.

Although they didn't get the credit in this article, Virginia Citizen's Defense League played a key role in getting this silly bill defeated.

Note that Virginia Sen. Mims (RINO) is quoted in the article.

I'm trying to recall all the cases on "Library Holdups".

I love this. It makes me want to go out and buy a really BIG handgun and then stroll into the Reference Department at the library wearing my iron.

Believe me, in my town, it would make people positively S*** their trousers. Hah!

Gilda Jacobs (state senator) has been trying to push this through here for the last 5 years.

Luckily all anti-gun bills lately have been DOA.

"I'm trying to recall all the cases on "Library Holdups"."

I'm trying to recall what exactly a library is used for.

Oh ... yeah ... meeting places and for folks who don't have computers.

VCDL is the best. Even if you aren't a member you should at least join the mailing list.

Where I live, libraries are also a favorite place for pedophiles to hang out, checking out the kids.

Some people still read books.

Good news for Virginians.

Now, if we can get the legislature to repeal the 'one handgun a month rule." Buying one a month can get pretty expensive :)

And a second on the recommendation to sign up for the VCDL news alerts.

If you have a CHP you can buy more than one a month. Although I seem to recall that if you buy more than one in a week from the same dealer they report it to the ATF(?).

True, but IMHO we should be able to buy 'em without the CHP. Purchasing one a month, every month seems like it would be a reasonable protest of the one-a-month law. Even the anti-gun folks should appreciate that strategy since it would get handguns 'off the street' and into the safe keeping of law abiding folks.

You're absolutely correct. Delegate Cole is sponsoring HB1914 which would end the restriction. I think it could pass the house, but the senate I doubt.
