Right after Chad Lewis caught that touchdown pass with about four minutes to go, the touchdown that cemented the victory and ensured the Philadelphia Eagles would be in the Super Bowl, some guy in the stands joyfully held up a sign that said, "We're Going To Jacksonville."
And I thought: What on earth is second prize? You have to build there?
How did Jacksonville get the Super Bowl? What, Tuscaloosa was booked?
If going to Jacksonville for a week is the reward New England and Philadelphia get for being the best teams in the NFL this year, Peyton Manning ought to be happy he didn't get there. Imagine how Manning would have felt, having to play all year in Indianapolis, and then landing in Jacksonville? Which gods would he have offended to get that killer quinella?
The NFL must see itself as handing out some sort of charity when it awards the Super Bowl to any place other than New Orleans, Miami and Southern California. Because, believe me, nobody wants the game to be anywhere but there. So when the NFL insists on putting it in outposts like Detroit, Houston or Minneapolis, people ask, "Are you guys nuts?" But when you pick Jacksonville, people are agape and say, "Who in Jacksonville has a photo of Tagliabue with a goat?"

So I guess Kornhieser will be giving up his press passes this year, huh? I mean surely he practices what opines, right?
We were in Orlando a couple of weeks ago and were surprised at all the hurricane damage we saw.
The damage on the ocean side was much worse. We still have houses/apartments/stores without roofs. It's going to take some time before everything gets back to "normal". Hopefully the next season will miss Florida completely!
We got grazed here in the northeast part of the state by Frances and Jeanne. We had more damage from Jeanne than from Frances probably because it hit at high tide, and the ground was already so waterlogged.
Great time to be a roofer in Florida.
What a snob!
I probably built the table Your food was served on. I used to build custom outdoor furniture. Clark's is one of the best seafood places to be found.
What city is he talking about? I went to Jacksonville a couple of years ago for the Gator Bowl. That city was huge! This guy is full of it.
I lived in Jacksonville Fl for 5 years, I must say I did not like it at all, especially the weather! The humidity and rain was enough to do you in!
Very hard to find a great restaraunt, although they do have great Seafood. Parts of Jacksonville are coming up to speed but there are still parts that are pretty Redneck!
I talk to a great friend of mine who still lives there and she said they are still not quite prepared for Super Bowl.
In closing I will say it's a growing city and they are on the move, but I will stay in San Diego although I do miss the price of my house in Jax and wish those prices were here in California!
People are quite nice in Jacksonville!
Hi, neighbor! We're in Switzerland, just south of you!
I'm proud of how cool Jacksonville is...and honestly, I don't know WHAT Kornhole is talking about. I've lived here four years and don't know of smells, dirtiness, etc. One walk downtown and you'll get a sense of how new, young and clean Jacksonville is.
I think Jax is plenty prepared for the big game. People who don't think highly of our city will be very surprised, I think. This is a SWEET place to live!
He lives in DC. If the Congressmen weren't bad enough, there's the crime. Oh, there's the crime.
"It is so much better than it used to be."
Didn't a mill in Jacksonville close down?
"It is so much better than it used to be."
Didn't a mill in Jacksonville close down?
Yes, I believe so. The Kraft paper mill shut down. There was also some other manufacturing plant in the northwest area that closed to and it put out a huge stink. I am having a senior moment and can't recall what it was. Maybe someone else on the thread will think of it and let us know.
I moved to Jacksonville in 1969. We lived in a number of other places during my husband's Navy career, but Jacksonville is home. It offers all the benefits of a big city, but the safety and joys of suburbia or a rural community.
Gee, could you get a little more defensive??!! Earth to Jacksonville--Tony was joking. That's what he does. Don't make him more right by reacting so violently.
You signed up just to say this???
Well Peyton didn't exactly do very well in Florida when he was with Tennessee.
If Whitey's is your idea of Redneck you have know idea what a Redneck place is like...
Jacksonville has changed a lot since the 1980's! Areas that were once "way out" are now the new happening areas of town. It really is a nice town and I might add very Republican. Approx. 50k were there to see President Bush a couple of weeks before the election.
