sorry, make that SAD, very sad.
What a heartbreaker!!
Prayers for the loved ones and our Marines who will carry on over there without their brothers.
I know some guys in that area, time to send out some
e-mails to make sure they're OK...
Judy,
Yes it is very sad. Anytime we lose some of our best it is very distressing. These things do occur in the military both during war and in peacetime, but what angers me most is that there are a significant number of our 'fellow Americans' that are struggling to hide their glee.
Prayers and Semper Fi
Jan. 26, 2005 At least 31 Marines have been killed in an apparently weather-related helicopter crash about 220 miles west of Baghdad.
Officials said low visibility appears to have contributed to the accident, and the transport helicopter apparently was not downed as a result of enemy fire.
Personnel from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing were transporting personnel from the 1st Marine Division to western Iraq at approximately 1:20 a.m. local time when the crash occurred near Ar Rutbah, Iraq. The Marines were going out to help election workers, officials said.
The 1st Marine Division is based out of Camp Pendleton in San Diego.

I have to head out into traffic and hope the news is better than what we suspect so far. Some on the thread have what was deleted earlier. They may be willing to share. It took my breath away.
...damn!....just heard on WHIO radio that all 30 aboard have perished. RIP.
Prayers on the way, phancypants.
Just heard this sad news. Our prayers go out to to these brave Marines and their families. Words just don't seem to be enough to express my gratitude for their sacrifice or my sorrow in their loss but they are all I have.
Crash was caused by mechanical failure or sand storms......30 Marines are dead according to Jim Miklaszewski on the Today Show.
Worst disaster since the war began. Horrible event. I wonder if the pundits will demand we cut and run as Carter did when the helicopters crashed in the desert before the rescue mission.
I often reflect on President Bush's very wise words spoken shortly after September 11th...
He stated very clearly what this would involve. Long term, different kind of war, enemy knows no borders, etc., but the point I remember most was, YOU ARE EITHER WITH US, OR WITH THE ENEMY.
There is no middle ground, and shame on those who try to create one.

Continued prayers of concern and condolence for all the loved ones..
AMERICA HOME OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE.
Maga-dittoes.....
It is an accident and not enemy fire.
"I just got a message from him; he's safe"
Thank God.
My heart sank when I heard this story first thing on the radio this morning. May God be with the victims and their families.
Why do we put more than 5 people in any helicopter.
Thank you Meg - for that beautiful tribute.
Because these (CH-53) are designed for large troop transport, among other things.
At present they seem to be much safer than ground transport.
"They shout: "No more war" - but they desire class war. They are indignant when a murderer is executed for a crime of passion, but they feel a secret pleasure in hearing of the murder of a political opponent. What objection have they ever raised to the Bolshevist slaughters? There is no getting away from it: conflict is the original fact of life, is life itself, and not the most pitiful pacifist is able entirely to uproot the pleasure it gives his inmost soul. Theoretically, at least, he would like to fight and destroy all opponents of pacifism." - Spengler
Prayers for the marines and their families.
Thank God.
