At 5:33PM on January 24, 2005 the Oglethorpe County 911 Center received an emergency call at 1064 Union Point Road which is known as Shoats Store, stating that a armed robbery was in process.
Sheriff Office personnel was dispatched to the incident location. During response E-911 advised that shots had been fired. Deputies arrived on scene at 5:37PM and discovered two male suspects had been shot.
EMS personnel also arrived on the scene administering Emergency Medical Care to both suspects. Both of the individuals were transported to Athens Regional Medical Center (ARMC) in Athens, Georgia.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (G.B.I.) from Athens was called to the scene along with the District Attorneys Office to assist the Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
All indications at this time is that the two suspects entered the store, one of the suspects was armed, and announced a armed robbery. Shots were exchanged by the robbers and the store owners, which resulted in both of the armed robbery suspects being shot.
After the suspects were transported to ARMC they were pronounced dead at the hospital. This case is active and under investigation at this time.
The two suspects have not been identified. Both deceased suspects were sent to the G.B.I. Crime Lab for an autopsy.
No charges have been filed at this time.
