I'm not criticizing. I'm just pointing out the obvious.

Yeah, after I re-read your post, I realized that it must be inflation they were talking about, since you said "in his day". Looks like they also gave him a bonus because of his relative position, though.

Oh good grief. His products were a revolution to computing, and continue to be the best in the world.

Could you do me a favor and name a single product that microsoft developed that was "revolutionary"? I'm having trouble thinking of any. By "developed", I mean a program that they didn't buy (or steal) from someone else.

He has taken money out of the capitalist world and is now giving it to the non-governmental-organization / non-profit world.

This cannot be helpful to the cause of freedom.

When I first read this, all sorts of things came to mind to blast you, then I noticed that it was you, Laz, who wrote it.

I guess I'm supressing freedom, all over the world when I donated money just this morning to two, non-governmental/non-profit organizations: The Salvation Army, and Kansas City's "City Union Mission."

I hang my head in shame!

Mark

I give Salvation Army a pass. Heck, *I* donate to *them*. They were one of the only groups wot would help me when I was down and out. Don't know the other group, but it's prolly the same, if you are donating to it.

Thanks for not blasting me! =:^o

Gates' good far outwieghs the bad. According to Kwasi's post 670,000 lives in Africa alone are estimated to have been saved. Yet you couldn't care less, and would apparently rather attack his generousity and push your open source communist agenda.

So the 'charities' that give moeny to the families of homicide bombers are a-ok?

Are you accusing Gates of funding homicide bombers? Please explain.

Yep. He gives them condoms

Which according to you is terrible, in a country where food is in short supply and deadly STD's everywhere? I fail to see the logic.

because of bill gates planned parenthood has more money

Again, where's some specifics? How does it compare to the other extremely worthwhile contributions that have been made? You have no clue, obviously.

is abortion preferable to a 2 year old dying of disease

While I do NOT support abortion, on it's own, in your context, yes, it is preferable, if death is certain. Life begins at conception, but life lost before birth, is without question easier on family and society, than life lost after birth. To argue otherwise is insanity.

9 Million to PPI..

That's it? Much of which may have been used for condoms to prevent the spread of deadly disease? Out of 30 billion did I hear?

Gates Booster For Kid's Health

Business Week, January 25, 2005

http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/jan2005/nf20050125_9455_db016.htm

On the eve of Bill Gates' appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said it will donate $750 million over the next 10 years to make vaccinations available to more children in developing countries. This contribution brings the Gates' commitment to childhood vaccination to $1.5 billion.

They will insure 10 million children are vaccinated for diseases such as tuberculosis, polio, tetanus, hepatitis B, and measles by 2015. In addition, these funds allow vaccines in late-stage trials to reach poor children faster. These include vaccines for rotavirus, which initiates sometimes fatal diarrhea, and pneumococcus, which causes meningitis.

Since the Gates Foundation, one of the world's major philanthropic organizations, first took an interest in global health, it has galvanized governments and aid organizations around the use of vaccines as an inexpensive and highly efficient way to decrease child mortality.

Gates' good far outwieghs the bad.

Here, I have to disagree. He could go out and personally save 670,000,000 lives, but if he funds even one abortion (which is cold-blooded murder), then he is evil. You cannot put a price on human life--even other lives.

I understand you have different views on that. I just don't think that anything "outweighs" murder.

Where is your proof that any child was aborted, or that the child was destined to live? See post 135.

Over half a million lives saved, due to this one cause alone, and you call the man evil. Easy for you to say.

I have never mentioned God and Gates in the same sentence before.

And you will notice NOT one time has Bill gates ever donated to a Christian Charity.

With $50 Billion in the bank he could sure do a lot to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
