I happen to not see many Hollywood films, having an inside knowledge of the dirty business of it all and having seen what damage the hollywood political activists have done in our country, turns my head from them.

Has nothing to do with the quality of the films.

My heroes are our military members

Mine too. Still has nothing to do with the quality of the films.>

The movies may well be the greatest movies ever made, however the fact that I have never heard of one of them tells me they are not great art, or pivotal works which will help shape our society.

One of the most astonishingly self absorbed things I've ever heard. The fact that The Passion of the Christ was not nominated tells me something.

Yes it does. That five other films got more votes.

No, but inside people who are involved with making the news are pretty good and reliable sources.

Because the Ray DVD is being released in less than a week (February 1), there's a good chance it will get Foxx the Best Actor award.

Less than a decade ago if someone said that two former stars of In Living Color were making some of the most interesting movies and giving some of the most compelling performances of late, they would have been laughed out of town.

It looks like Jim Carrey got snubbed because Foxx used up AMPAS's 'former In Living Color cast member' quota. :-)

Yep. I don't even bother arguing the point anymore; the religious people don't want to hear it. It was powerful. It was moving. It just wasn't that good a film.

Some people cannot look at films and decide if they are good from an acting, directing, etc standpoint if they become emotionally wrapped up in them.

I think Fox is a shoo-in for Ray. The big surprise is Alan Alda for Best Supporting Actor in the Aviator.

I tend to agree with you.

I've only seen two of the motion pictures on that list, both of them documentaries.

Based upon the films that I've watched, I'd have to say that "Tupac: Resurrection" deserves the nod in the "Best Documentary" category.

Surprisingly, for a movie that was overseen-from start to finish-by Afeni Shakur, it was relatively impartial and professionally done.

Aside from the cloying first person monologue-primarily audio clips from her late son's interviews, spliced together in order to form a coherent narrative-and a few other less than savory elements in the picture, I thought that it was an enthralling profile of Tupac's career, in addition to his pre-Hip Hop life.

And don't forget: it was released in February. The Academy has very short memories when it comes to nominating films.

A sign of a good critic is that while their political perspectives may inform their views, they allow other factors to determine whether or not a movie succeeds aesthetically and intellectually. Hence, liberal Roger Ebert praised the film as a personal expression of Gibson's faith, while conservative James Bowman condemned the film for being confused about what it was really trying to say about the nature of Jesus's matyrdom. Different critics, different perspectives-but both fine and thoughtful critics, and both equally valid interpretations.

Again with this. I think the people who vote for these awards are less than desirable makers of history or the ones I think should get to choose what is and what is not "art".

See.... I don't respect most people in Hollywood as great minds or even as great creative beings. So do you understand why I would not respect their choices or the awards they praise themselves with?

Sure- I can even understand how some see that there is a bit of fun in it all the hoopla, I never said there otherwise.

Believe it or not there are a few movies I have enjoyed- and some of them are even made by leftists, but I don't think the world revolves around those movies or anyone who had a part in making them.

And as I have stated before ,I don't begrudge anyone their time enjoying movies.

I just happen to think these awards are a joke.

So then you don't believe it unless you see it with your own eyes huh? Ok. I have some pretty good sources so I will keep listening to them since I can't be everywhere at the same time -you shall do as you please.

That must also be why White Chicks didn't get any nods :-)

I take everything I hear wqith grain of salt. To believe that anyone is going to present you with the whole story without even a hint of a slant is naive. But I know some people live very happily in their naivete.
