Insurgent Video Seems to Show U.S. Hostage in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An insurgent video distributed in Iraq (news - web sites) and seen by Reuters appears to show an American citizen being held hostage by militants and pleading for his life as a gun is held to his head.

The 60-second video, seen on Tuesday, shows a man identifying himself as U.S. citizen Roy Hallams sitting against a black background with his legs crossed, anxiously rubbing his hands together as he appeals to the camera.

"I have been arrested by a resistance group in Iraq. I'm asking for help because my life is in danger because it's been proved that I work for American forces," he says on the tape. The authenticity of the video could not immediately be verified.

The U.S. embassy in Iraq said it had no immediate information.

The man, whose thick beard is flecked with white and who appears scared, speaks clearly but nervously on the tape and repeatedly tenses his fists as he is talking. He is dressed in civilian clothes and does not say when or where he was seized.

He appeals for help from Arab leaders but says he does not want help from President Bush (news - web sites).

"I'm not asking for any help from President Bush because I know of his selfishness and unconcern to those who've been pushed into this hell hole," he says.

"I am asking for help from Arab rulers, especially President Muammar Gaddafi (news - web sites), because he is known for helping those who are suffering. I am also asking Arab leaders to help me in this situation so that I can be released as quickly as possible from this definite death.

"I would remember this favor for the rest of my life, should my life remain," the man says, speaking with the barrel of an assault rifle just inches from his head.

I'm sure he is being forced to say these things. The threat of beheading will do that to you, I guess.

But who is he? I wonder when he was kidnapped. It mentions a beard, as if he may have been in captivity for some time.

Triangulation. Kaddafi went to the Clinton school of politics.

And he got a taste of US wrath via President Reagan's grapes.

And he heard what President Bush said. Kaddafi doesn't want a repeat.

An aside, Kaddafi allgedly called the Soviets and said "Don't send surface-to-air missles, send surface-to-airplane missles." Apocrophia, obviously, but funny.

The name sounds familiar. Is he one of the KBR employees that were involved in the same attack as Tommy Hamil?

They still have one missing person but I can't remember his name.

This is a tad bit too convenient. I'm not buying it.

I can't help but think of the AP reporter, I believe it was AP, who was allowed to film an execution carried out by the terrorists. This sounds like such agitprop.

You may be right. I thought the name sounded familiar, too.

"I'm sure he is being forced to say these things."

I wouldn't be too sure about that.

Roy Hallums, a worker for a Saudi company that does catering for the Iraqi army, was seized Nov. 1 along with two other foreigners and three Iraqis after a gunbattle in the upscale Mansour neighborhood. An Iraqi guard and one attacker were killed.

(Hallums is the correct spelling.)

Ah well given the evidence..."speaking with the barrel of an assault rifle just inches from his head." I'd say you could safely make that bet.

""I'm not asking for any help from President Bush because I know of his selfishness and unconcern to those who've been pushed into this hell hole," he says."

He's a contractor, so he "volunteered" to go. Can't blame Pres. Bush for his ending up in Iraq.

Sounds like an anti-Bush war protester who fell into the wrong hands. Funny how he despises America even as he begs his captors for his sorry excuse of a life.

I would not assume that.

Other hostages have obviously spouted whatever the bastard terrorists have told them to say.

Before they were beheaded.

May god help this man.

If he hated Bush so much and agree that the islamic leaders are working in his favor i dont beleive that he would have stepped up and said he would go to Iraq and help with Bush's plan to reconstruct the country. Number two their gonna kill him anyway just to make Bush look heartless and hateful because of the made up comment. May Jesus Christ have mercy on his life.

Roy Hallums daughter has set up a website in honor of her father who is currently being held hostage in Iraq. Roy was taken hostage November 1, 2004 along with another hostage who's fate is unknown, Filipino Roberto Tarongoy.

The mainstream media has not caught onto Roy Hallums' story except for a brief appearance on Good Morning America just before Christmas. read more here: Roy Hallums website.
