Some 2,000 Southeast Side residents lost electrical power for about an hour Sunday after the driver of an SUV lost control and rolled over, knocking down a power pole and cables on Pantano Parkway.
The driver, a 58-year-old man with a heart pacemaker whose identity was not released, apparently "blacked out" and his car left the road and flipped, according to a police report. He was taken to University Medical Center's trauma center with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Power went out around noon in an area bounded by East 22nd Street, East Golf Links Road and Pantano Parkway east to Houghton Road; in addition to the customers, three traffic lights on Golf Links were affected. Electricity was restored by about 1 p.m., except for five customers who got their lights turned on by 4:30 p.m., said Tucson Electric Power spokesman John Brown.
Traffic was restricted from one southbound lane of Pantano Parkway while repairs were made. After striking a power pole and pulling down several high-voltage wires, the SUV also hit a transformer box, creating a "serious electrical hazard," police said at the scene.
Those darn SUV's are at it again!
I presume that had a 4-door sedan hit the pole, no people would be without electricity!
The embedded artificial intelligence chip must have malfunctioned. A firmware upgrade is in order.
No doubt the driver had nothing to do with the SUV's mindless attack on the utility pole.
In addition to having will and volition, Evil Republican SUVs are also expert meterologists and electrical engineers, knowing exactly which poles to hit to cut off power to poor unsuspecting Democrats during a terrible snow-storm.
If only we had signed Kyoto, none of this would have heppened.
You're prolly right!
Way "4-door sedans" are made these days, hitting a cane pole would likely total one.
That's why so many folks drive SUV's.
Damn SUVs have a mind of their own!

Stephen King is a prophet.
"..the driver of an SUV lost control and rolled over.."
Before or after the SUV assaulted the power lines?
"...the driver of an SUV lost control and rolled over, knocking down a power pole and cables..."
The SUV stood by and did nothing as the driver rolled over and assaulted the poor power pole!
Self-corrected above
RUN!
Run for your lives--the evil SUV's are baaaaaaaack!
RUN AWAY!
I strongly disagree! Having owned an SUV for the last 7 years, I have only on one or two occasions had to discipline my vehicle for unprovoked attacks on roadside stands and utility infrastructure. I believe the vehicle is now thoroughly "roadbroken" and can now be trusted not to attack any utility poles, fruit stands or people selling portraits of Elvis in velvet.
It does, however seem to like German Food - Volkswagens and Beemers in particular.
LoL.
This reporter is apparently a graduate of the AP School of Story Writing.
This is just a prelude to massive terrorist SUV attacks on the entire power grid!
Nice proof-read job by his editor
If the pole had been hit by a motorcycle, car, SUV, van, pick-up truck, 18-wheeler or airplane, the article would have stated motorcycle, car, SUV, van, pick-up truck, 18-wheeler or airplane. So what's the problem? I for one like to know what type of vehicle was involved in an accident.
This article is written just fine.
LOL
