Prosecutors have obtained photographs of a Springfield Township couple's neopagan tattoos in an effort to match the markings to puncture wounds on the woman's slain year-old daughter. Daniel Duffield and Vanessa McGlumphy are charged in connection with the neck-snapping death of McGlumphy's 13-month-old daughter Jacqueline Mae Cooper.
Aside from the fatal neck injury, the toddler's body was also riddled with more than 40 puncture wounds, 12 broken ribs and a lacerated liver. Prosecutors last week received permission from Summit County Common Pleas Judge Marvin Shapiro to photograph the couple to determine whether their religious tattoos match puncture wounds that appear on the toddler's feet.
According to court records, the child had puncture wounds on her foot in the shape of a Wicca or Celtic symbol.
In addition, prosecutors say that Duffield and McGlumphy told investigators that they wanted to raise the girl in their Wiccan faith, an earth-based religion sometimes called ``The Craft´´ or the ``The Craft of the Wise.´´
Duffield told investigators that he placed the Wiccan pentacle symbol on the girl's feet, prosecutors say. Photos of the couple's markings were taken last week at the Summit County Jail, where the two are being held. Duffield's tattoos include a skull and dagger, an anarchy symbol, a demon and a Celtic cross, prosecutors say. McGlumphy's include a goat head, Medusa and a she-devil.
Prosecutors say a needle containing the child's DNA was found near her crib around the time of her death. The child's puncture wounds, prosecutors contend, are evidence of abuse at the hands of Duffield and proof that McGlumphy ignored the girl's injuries. ``For (McGlumphy), Wicca is nothing but an appreciation and love of nature,´´ said defense lawyer Tom Adgate, who represents the woman. Adgate said his client ``didn´t notice -- and she didn´t condone´´ -- the symbol puncture wounds. ``And she doesn´t know when it was done.´´
Duffield's lawyers could not be reached for comment. Duffield, 32, is charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and felonious assault involving puncturing the girl's feet and face. McGlumphy, 25, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangering. Each has pleaded not guilty.
Both are scheduled for trial Monday, but Duffield has asked for a delay to allow his lawyers more time to prepare for trial. Shapiro is expected to rule on the request in a hearing.
The toddler died Oct. 6 from either a dislocation at the top of the spine -- from blunt impact to the head -- or a ``hyperextension/hyperflexion´´ of the neck, according to autopsy reports.
On Tuesday, a juvenile court judge granted temporary custody of the girl's twin sister to McGlumphy's father. The arrangement was agreed to by the child's biological father.

No sweat. I've noticed in the past that some people like to refer to the DOE as some sort of "evidence" that the Founders wanted to set up an inherently religious government. Thus, I point out that the DOE carries no force of law, and that the document which DOES, the Constitution, does not mention any religious beliefs in its text, save to PROSCRIBE any establishment of a state religion.
I get annoyed when people try to justify religious bigotry by using the Founding Documents.

You concured with a poster who attempted to make moral equivocation based upon a faulty premise to begin with ("[Should] Muslims...be judged by their worst members, and Christians judged by this noblest pronouncements?")
If you had also read the rest of his post, he made analogious the "Christians" who "murdered abortion doctors," and Muslim behavior (i.e. murderers).

The proof of such "judgement" is self-evident.
Generally speaking, it is the culture established under the principles of 'Christiandom,' from which the Repubic (and much of the West) has thrived and cherished freedom;
The culture of Islam speaks for it-self.

Look, Lib, I took an oath to defend the Constitution. I DO dislike it when it is threatened by people who use it as a cover, don't misunderstand. However, the thing I keep coming back to is the fact that just because some freedoms and liberties are misused does NOT mean that those liberties need to be restricted. If we really follow that document, we simply have to tolerate some crap. You cannot "selectively" eliminate rights. If they are limited or violated for one group, they will eventually be violated for all.
Sometimes you have to grit your teeth. I agree that it sucks. But the important thing is that the Constitution is followed. When we start short-circuiting it, especially based on emotion or the heat of the moment, we become no better than those we oppose.
Like I said before, some on the Left would try to take away our Second Amendment rights. They do not hesitate to dance in the blood when some insane mass shooting occurs, and use that and calls to "protect our children!" to justify their eliminating of that fundamental right. This situation is no different.
The Founders set things up this way for a reason. You simply have to respect that the process is being followed, and trust that the bad stuff will out in the end.

AKRON, Ohio -- A Springfield Township mother broke down in tears as she was sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with the death of her 13-month-old daughter.
McGlumphy
Vanessa McGlumphy, 25, and the baby's father made statements to the court Wednesday, NewsChannel5 reported.
McGlumphy, pleaded guilty last month to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering for not protecting her daughter.
The toddler died last October. She suffered a broken neck, a severed liver and 12 broken ribs. She also had been struck 40 times with a needle on the bottom of both feet and the side of her head, the prosecutor said.
McGlumphy said that she thought her boyfriend, Daniel Duffield, 32, sacrificed her child because he is a different religion than she is and that they performed a ritual on the girl as a result of his belief. McGlumphy characterized Duffield as a "black pagan," the prosecutor said.
Duffield was found guilty Tuesday of involuntary manslaughter and murder in the death of the toddler.
He will be sentenced March 9. He faces 15 years to life in
