It looks like The KGB (or whatever there new name is) is getting real sloppy. I new stuff like this was going to happen ever since Putin was first elected.

The loss of Ukraine to the West has put a real kink in Putin's freedom-loving facade. The Communists are still very much in power and waiting for an opportunity after they have extracted as much US and western capital as they can.

It's like something from the nineteenth century.

"Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." - Lord Acton

Putin and his cronies can't win by extreme force so they poison anyone who doesn't or won't conform to their views.

You gotta love this part:

As support for Mr Yushchenko grew daily, the Yanukovich-Kuchma faction became more desperate. They decided to transport miners from Donetsk on the Russian border and diehard Yanukovich supporters to Kiev to counter-demonstrate the students. The intention was clear - they would spark a conflict and violence and crack down on the peaceful Orange Revolutionaries. The fighting would not just crack skulls, it would lead to a suspension of Parliament, of the elections, a one-year state of emergency and the continued rule of President Kuchma.

Then a curious thing happened. As the miners gathered in Donetsk, free vodka was handed out. They got vodka on their coaches and trains, and they were met in Kiev by trucks loaded with crates of vodka. By the time they had been in Kiev for an hour or so, most were paralytically drunk.

"No, the vodka was not a coincidence," said Alex Kiselev, a close adviser to Yushchenko rival Yanukovich, glumly. "We realised what was going on too late. It wasn't illegal but it was damned clever. It was a trick and we were dumb enough to fall for it, we shot ourselves in the foot with that one. It was all very scripted. There were hundreds of Western agents in Ukraine."

Well, that's just nice. Consider the fact Yushchenko is making his first visit to see Putin himself in Russia. Hope he stays away from food and drink and I hope he has a lot of bodyguards.

When my boss got to the dacha, his bodyguard was ordered to stay in the car.

Similar to what happened to GWB in South America. Thank God Bush grabbed his bodyguard and pulled him into the dinner.

I think we all just missed a disaster of global proportions.

Yushenko is the new Rasputin. For those unfamiliar, Rasputin was a corrupted monk who was closely tied to the czar or Russia before his overthrow by the communists in 1918. He was close to the czar's family due to his apparent power to heal their son's hemophiliac condition. The Czar tried multiple times to kill him through poisoning and other ways after he fell out of favor with the royalty but they couldn't kill him and he survived numerous attacks. He was finally killed and he said before his death that if he were killed by the czar that terrible things would befall the czar and after he died the czar and his whole family wound up being overthrown and then executed.
