BAGHDAD -- The day after the soldiers came, Imaad ordered his mother to go through her refrigerator and pantry and throw out all the cheese that had been made outside of Iraq. He went around and collected any images of Westerners in the house, threw them in a pile and burned them until they were floating bits of ash. He struck his mother repeatedly and forbade her to watch foreign news or movie channels on their new television.
The Americans were "the devil," Imaad ranted.
By all accounts, Imaad, 32, was a typical, mild-mannered college graduate who spoke English well and had quietly supported the U.S. presence in Iraq -- until Jan. 5, the night the soldiers came.

The Americans raided homes in a Sunni area of Baghdad notorious for supporting insurgents. The man in this article, according to the Washington Post, was one of the few in that area who didn't hate Americans... until the fateful night when they entered his apartment where he lives with his mother and found the girly magazines he had hidden in his bedroom. They didn't assault him or harm him or his mother. But after this horrible incident, this normally calm 32-year-old man became someone who hits his mother, calls the Americans "devils" and says of the pills prescribed to calm him "all these belong to Jewish people".
Wow, what a remarkable transformation. And all because the nasty Americans found his girly mags. We should all be ashamed of our troops because the Washington Post says so. /sarcasm
see what porn does to you........I'M BLIND
BWHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH
"The day after the soldiers came, Imaad ordered his mother to go through her refrigerator and pantry and throw out all the cheese that had been made outside of Iraq. "
I love it when a self-important hack reporter tries to write like a banal turd world novelist.
Gentle and decent chap beats up his mother, all because of the horrid Americans.
Jackie Spinner has been putting out a string of America-is-terrorizing-Iraqis articles from Iraq.
It's about what you might expect from the Washington Post stable of left-wing zealots. It's all ammunition for the Impeach Bush campaign they are starting, having lost their battle for Kerry.
No wonder their circulation is going down down down.
In a very short while, this poor suffering fellow will have to deal not with Americans but with a Shiite-dominated Iraqi police force, and the reshuffling of his porn collection will be the least of his problems.
Jackie Spinner has been in Iraq too long, her articles aren't even believable anymore.
I'm actually sympathetic to him. Why? Because the soldiers were being jerks to an innocent man who had no power.
When innocent people are bullied, this is the sort of thing that happens to them.
These soldiers need to be professionals.
Girly magazines? How shocking! IF..A BIG IF..this is true, sounds like the guy's porno stash was discovered and he had a major guilt & shame reaction.
Freudian interpretation: He then runs to the Mosque, expatiates his guilt by intense religiosity; projects his shame onto his mother (beats her) and externalizes his conflict re sin/no sin onto the "West" attempting to rid himself of his own sinfulness by throwing out the cheese.
Alternative explanation: The soldiers symbolize the father who died and he is expressing his anger at his father for leaving him alone.
Thought the Washington elite might appreciate this intellectual analysis. Now, can we get on with the war?
This is least of our worries. Sorry WaPo.
good except that Freud was a deranged sexual misfit too
Bingo! We have a winner.
The point is that you can't pin all his present problems (beating his mother, calling prescription pills "Jewish") on this one incident. The man clearly has had problems. A transformation like that doesn't happen overnight. The Washington Post is being ridiculous.
Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater! Just because Freud was misinterpeted and "used" by intellectuals and distorted beyond understanding....besides it was he who said, " Sometimes, it's just a cigar." ( or was that Clinton?,ha.)
That one keeps getting perpetrated, but it's a load. If you fly over Baghdad in a helicopter, it's lit up like freakin' Vegas. Makes me think most of the rest of the article is a load as well.
This should be in humor section.
right next to Barbara Boxer's resume.
