A day in the life of President Bush (1/22/05), many photos

The President, First Lady and their parents relaxed at the White House today. Former President GHW Bush visited the press corps on duty in the WH press briefing room.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: This week, Washington has been marked by pomp and circumstance. In a free nation, these ceremonies are more than pageantry. They underscore that public office is a public trust. America's elected leaders derive their authority from the consent of the American people, whom we serve. This is a high privilege, and that privilege carries a serious responsibility: to confront problems now, instead of passing them on to future generations.

As long as I hold this office, I promise that I will serve all Americans and will work to promote the unity of our great nation. And working together, we will secure the blessings of liberty, not only for ourselves, but for generations of Americans to come.

President George W. Bush, Presidential Radio Address, Jan. 22, 2005.

I noticed that she hasn't been around lately too and I was actually wondering if she was back on drugs after I didn't see her at the inauguration, but I see others are speculating too.

It's a photo that certainly does capture a moment in time, as if all photos don't. I think you know what I mean with this one though. It was a special moment, a historic event. This photo captured it very well. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Wasn't there a comment by Jeb last year sometime about the family using a little "tough love" and how difficult it was to do....Somehow that is planted in the back of my mind (have been in a similar situation) but don't ask me exactly when it was....

WOW! Hope you haven't spent it all . . .yet . . .LOL! Did he enjoy doing his civic duty? What kind of case was it!

I'm amazed to see Jeb and his wife together just because it's such a contrast in their size, especially when they're dancing--they're so cute together. They obviously share a very strong love, just like George and Laura!

For the last few days whenever I've switched (QUICKLY!) to CNN (I do occasionally just to see if there were clips from the Ing. balls or something) they've just been replaying classic sports events. Anyone have any idea why?

Dare we hope they've fired everyone and there's a sneak takeover of FReepers to make it a truly conservative network??? LOL!

...perhaps I'm not reading you right.

You're not, but that's OK. It's understandable. Like many people, I respond more strongly to visual stimulation than to input from my other senses. So the visual contrast between them is what I find amazing. The comment is not meant in any way as a negative or even a personal one, but rather relates to the visual image -- the way shapes relate to and contrast with one another.

For example, I love the Photo of the Day on this thread not just because of what the expressions on their faces say, but due to the wonderful composition of the shot. I don't see just a photo, but photography as art.

What is going on with Jeb's daughter Noelle? The way you two are talking she apparently is having drug problems again?

I honestly don't know what's going on with her. Somewhere earlier on this thread, I actually defended her by saying that just because we don't see someone in a selection of photos doesn't mean they are not at the event.

We left Friday morning, due to the weather forecast for NC. We had a thin layer of ice late yesterday and the sun is shining today. I really hate leaving now, but after having such a horrible time getting there, we didn't want to take any chances.

On the way up, it started snowing and it looked like little whirlwinds on the highway. Suddenly this vehicle came around us, way too fast and just as he pulled back in front of us, all of those little whirlwinds turned into a huge one and you could not see. This vehicle spun around, hit the concrete divider, bounced off that, into a car, pushed that car into another one. White those vehicles were spinning, he bounced off the concrete divider again, hit more cars. The guy's vehicle was totally out of control as it hit one after the other, directly in front of us. Cars were twisting and turning, sliding in all directions and all we could do was sit there, wondering when any of them would hit us.

God was surely watching over us, because there were a total of 14 cars hit before it was over and we were right in the middle of all of them, but none touched our vehicle. After that, it took us 4 hours to go 10 miles or less. This was around Richmond, VA. We missed everything on Wednesday.

Couldn't get the rest of our group to understand that we needed to get to the inauguration ceremony EARLY, so when we got there around 10:30, THOUSANDS were waiting to go thru security and after standing there until after the swearing in was over, they quit letting people cross the street, so we never even made it to the capitol grounds. There were thousands behind us, so when you saw the crowd during the swearing in, there were almost that many more who never got across Constitution Avenue (the side we were supposed to enter), therefore never got onto the grounds.

I had bleacher seats for the parade and we were less than two blocks from the President's viewing stand. He walked directly in front of us (within 15 feet). Didn't check camera before leaving and was trying to load film while waiting for parade to begin, only to find out the battery was dead. LOL Had some wonderful luck on this trip. :( I DID have my camcorder, so got some good footage.

Went to the Democracy Ball that night and saw the president again, but roomies thought getting there fashionably late was the thing to do, so missed the Vice President's visit. Got him in the parade though. I'd been before, so knew what to expect. None of them had ever been, yet they thought they knew more than I did.

Next time, I think I'll go by myself or at a minimum, have less people in a group. Six women and we were late for everything, because ONE took forever to get dressed for everything and stayed locked in the bathroom, so others couldn't get ready. I definitely know who NOT to invite the next time.

SUMMARY:
Missed Celebration of Freedom-due to weather
Ball that same night, for same reason
Missed Inauguration Ceremony
Made the parade
Made the inaugural ball.

Got out of town early on Friday.

I hope the fun things you got to do outweighed the disappointment of missing some of the events!

I understand about knowing who NOT to travel with; one time I went to a scrapbook convention with a lady who could not stand to have one iota of light in our room, to the extent of no TV, NO lights on all night, and. . . .she had to block the bottom of the door so no light from the hallway got in. I will NEVER room with her again!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures here on the last several days of threads.
