A number of children were in the stands. Some were the VP's granddaughters. Others were the younger children in the extended Bush and Welch families. And some may have been the children of presidential aides.
I don't think you have it wrong.
Thank you, blackie. I'm humbled by your kindness. As I said at the top of the thread, we have a bumpy week coming up, so I figure we need to savor this moment as long as possible.
Wolfstar,
I wonder if you could tell me how to find an older picture of Mrs Bush from 1st term. I'm having a friendly argument with someone who says her hair style is the same as it was 4 years ago and I say it's been refined and updated. Just can't find any pictures to back up my side.
I'd do a search but don't think I can go back that far. I always have a hard time searching on this site for some reason.
Thanks,
Mupcat
Snugs, CNN (domestically) has run a bio of the VP. It was pretty good, and I learned some things about him I hadn't known before.
As we know, he met and fell in love with Lynne while still in high school. What I didn't know was that someone helped him get into Yale, but in his heart it wasn't something he wanted to do. He felt out of place at Yale. He missed Wyoming and Lynne, and his grades suffered. He was kicked out eventually, and went back to Wyoming. Between the ages of about 19 and 22, he lived a bit of a wild life. He smoked and drank heavily, and kicked around meaningless jobs. For awhile, he was a lineman (fixing power lines) for the local power company.
At least as the CNN bio tells it, Lynne issued an ultimatim. It was either his wild lifestyle or her. He decided he lover her too much to lose her. So he enrolled in the University of Wyoming, took some political science courses, decided he loved politics, and the rest is history.
Apparently, he didn't quit smoking, eventually getting up to three packs a day. It is believed that, plus stress and poor diet, are what caused his first heart attack.
So it seems both our President and Vice President went through a period of sowing their wild oats before the women in their lives straightened them out.
That's one reason why I never rely solely on Yahoo for photos. I always go out to the White House website, and also search the various mainstream news sites in case they have photo essays. The photos on the first page of this thread of the President and Vice President being sworn in came from the White House website.
Be careful in that blizzard, STARWISE.
I don't know. There was a very good hour-long special on Discovery Channel (or one of the similar educational channels) about the Secret Service. But I've never heard of a book about them.
Well, since you asked...the President was in a kissing mood on Thursday. (Because you may not see this today, I'll post it on tomorrow's Dose also.)
I think it's well known in some circles that I don't frequent the Bush 'day in pictures' threads. That's part of the reason I don't know the best places to find photos for them. After special events I think the guy is due his accolades, and I don't mind joining in.
Thanks for the great pictures and additional comments.
I'd join you in giving that gesture to the Euro-Left -- and I wouldn't give a rat's butt what they'd think about it.
Question: This may have already been discussed, have not read entire thread, still recovering from the drive, the weather, the all day on the feet thingie inaugurations always include, and the ball and the drive home.... But it seems the President has his hand over an open Bible in the pic , whereas the Bible held for Cheney appears closed. Do you know what verse, or Chapter perhaps, it is, that is so precious to our President that he would cover it with his hand when taking his Presidential Oath of Office?
And a good evening to you, ozbushkin. I had to go out earlier and am now catching up to the thread. That explains why I didn't answer you sooner. I'm glad you enjoyed today's selection of photos. The photo of the day is pretty special in my opinion. It's good to know someone else sees it that way also.
Yes, both the Cheney daughters looked very nice. And the granddaughters just looked adorable walking with the Cheneys in the parade.

Good night!
Good evening, Gretchen. I think you're observations about the girls are absolutely spot on. Their mother's natural personality is reserved. Not shy, necessarily. Just collected and reserved, like her mother. Jenna, on the other hand, has a personality similar to their dad. More naturally outgoing and bubbly.
Jenna looked drop-dead gorgeous in that green gown. Frankly, I thought Barbara's dress was somehow too "old" for her. I would like to have seen wear something a bit more youthful and colorful.
LOL! If the kid has to be troubled that the power keeps going out, then how dare the cat sleep through it...grin.
Because you're instincts are right and it's true. Some of them would want something to happen to our Dubya.
The more security the better!
I agree. I get a charge out of all the cops and agents running alongside the limo, and the emergency vehicles all flashing their lights, and the small army of agents on the running boards. Watching it all, I kept hoping some dimbulb would make a break through the barrier toward the limo, just so I could have the thrill of seeing the agents in action. Dimbulb, meet pavement. LOL!
You're welcome.
