There is one force shield type protection that is under research by DARPA but it is not something that will defeat incoming bullets, only certain type of RPGs. The technology must advance with searching to create artificial gravity waves with gravity particles to resist projectiles and lasers but that will be way in the future, if it is possible and affordable.

Once again, we don't have the kind of forward looking vision we need.
But at least we are inching our way.
If I had a Bil or 2, I guarantee you I could get a real live force shield inside of 2 years.
