[India News]: Bangalore, Jan 21 : American evangelist Benny Hinn Friday evening began his much-awaited "Festival of Blessings" prayer meeting here, which saw a shutdown call and incidents of stone throwing by protesting Hindu activists earlier in the day.
About 8,000-10,000 policemen have been deployed in and around the sprawling venue to regulate crowds.
Organisers of the show, being held at the Jakkur airstrip on the outskirts of the city, said earlier that about 400,000 people had already gathered for the event from all parts of the country, especially south India. A few hundred also came from abroad.
Speaking to IANS on phone from the venue, they said, "People are still trooping in, awaiting the arrival of Hinn to conduct the mass prayer and deliver sermons. We are expecting 200,000 more people in the night."
The function started with a 2,400-voice choir singing hymns and prayers in several Indian languages apart from English. Giant screens and mega speakers have been installed all over the grounds for a closer view of the massive stage and to listen to Hinn's religious discourses.
Undeterred by the "Bangalore bandh" shutdown call given by the Hindu Jagaran Vedike with the support of the Sangh Parivar, including the Bharatiya Janata party, the organisers are going ahead with the three-day programme, armed with a high court order.
Earlier in the day, the city witnessed stray incidents of stone throwing at moving buses and processions by anti-Hinn activists, demanding a ban on the programme.
According to police, about 60 state-owned buses were damaged in some parts of the city during the day-long shutdown that led to closure of shops and commercial establishments.
Friday being an official holiday on account of Eid, schools, colleges and government offices remained closed, and there was less traffic on roads.
But roads leading to the venue, about 20 km from the city, were choc-a-bloc with hundreds of buses and other vehicles jamming the national highway.
"We have nabbed about 100 miscreants who were indulging in stone throwing and attempting to torch some buses. We have also rounded-up some leaders of the Vedike when they were trying to disrupt traffic and create disturbances," city police commissioner M. Marisamy told IANS.
So? As long as they guy who was healed believes, what does it matter you don't?
There was also miracle healings on the set of The Passion of the Christ"
There was also a Doctor cured of a horrible cancer with days to live. I am sorry you have not ever had the wonderful expereince of Jesus's healing.
And "preaches the Gospel"? What do you think the Gospel is, Missy? When did you EVER hear Hinn preach it?
Dan
Wow, you're gullible. Have you been wiring money to any Nigerians lately?
The typical modus operandi of these guys is to find people who arrived at the performance WITHOUT A WHEELCHAIR and then GIVE them one. And they then proceed to pull them out of the wheelchair.
WOO-HOO! The late, great Benny Hill! I loved his show!
I was hoping somebody'd post a pic of him, thanks.
ROFL. You think evolutionists believe humans evolved from Rhesus Monkeys?
Humans didn't evolve from monkeys at all. Both Monkeys and humans evolved from a common primate ancestor, now extinct, millions of years ago.
And my point is FR creationists have a habit of repeatedly posting fabricated and out of context quotations, and also outright lying. Which sort of befuddles me because they also claim to be quite religious, and I think it's pretty clear that sort of thing is verboten.
If I were a betting woman, I'd bet good money that at the very bottom of it all you'll find Indian politicans -- in this case the militant-nationalist Hindu faction(s) -- and their rent-a-mod. Politicans from every venue have played the "mass protest" card throughout India for the last 60+ years.
He should get in touch with the skeptic 'the amazing randy, who has offered at least $100,000 dolars for proof of a single incident of miraculous healing. No one has taken him up on his offer yet.
I thought I might get a job as a catcher on his show.
Not only do I know a guy healed from a Benny Hinn crusade, but I also know about another 10 or so people who have had some incredible miraculous healings thanks to someone praying for them, and one guy I know has had about three or four miraculous healings of various conditions...
I myself have been on the receiving end of a healing, done in the name of Christ Jesus, and it is for real!
Personally, I don't really care if anyone believes it or not, I know I have been healed of a condition (arthritis) that simply doesn't "go away" or has a cure.
Sorry I can't prove it to those who doubt, but then I benefit from the healing whether or not anyone believes me, and that's enough for me!
Thank you Jesus! He still heals! (And not just through Benny Hinn!)
He's not going anywhere near Randi as Randi was the guy that busted Peter Popoff (A fradulent Benny Hinn type from a previous day) on the Johnny Carson show.
I agree. I don't have enough information or authority to judge Binnie. If he is able to bring a fraction of those people to find Jesus, that is more than I have done today.
Exactly,
Benny Hinn does not give one ounce of credit for doing any of the healings, he preaches that Jesus can heal anyone ANYONE Why? Because Jesus can. He might be showy Oh well he is able to bring the Miracle of hope and healing through Jesus to the entire world. Does he ask for money YES! who is gonna pay for all these crusades does he reap some of the benefits? Proably yes as I and all of us do from the jobs we do.
I followed a spritual 3 day fast from a site that Benny Hinn recommended from the Holy Sciptures, it was incredible that I received healing not from Benny Hinn but from Jesus Christ, Hinn is only the messenger.
Is Amazing Randy still around? Haven't heard from him in years...
One lady I know was healed of curvature of the spine (I forget the technical name for it) and has before & after X-Rays to prove it! (Helps that she's an RN...) No joke or slight-of-hand with her, she had terrible problems with her back for years, and was over-joyed when all the pain and suffering she had endured went away.
But of course those stories of miraculous healing aren't anything compared to those who have been raised from the dead...
I think that You All are 100% Correct concerning Benny Hinn.
In my Opinion....Benny Hinn IS A HERETIC.
SHAME ON HIM.
JUSTICE will be served on The Great Day of The LORD...when Hinn will have to stand before HIS...GOD'S Throne and Give a Proper Account of himself.
Hinn...Will be found: NAKED, WANTING AND WITHOUT AN EXCUSE.
My only question about faith healers is why, if God has given them divine powers to heal the lame and the sick, why hasn't God given them the power to heal their own hair??
The hairstyles these televangelists wear are hysterical. Benny Hinn looks like he has a small aircraft carrier on his head.
