I thought it was just a beautiful service. Very varied in its parts, but very direct and meaningful. The President seemed to especially enjoy it.
Ronan Tynan's first song just lifted me clear up and made my day.

God moves in mysterious ways. Perhaps that magnificent voice would never have been released for the world without that accident, who knows.
Mr. Tynan has ministered to millions with his voice, we know that. But I have never heard anything more beautiful than that first hymn How Great Thou Art. Somehow I have a feeling that W had a hand in that choice. At any rate, you could tell he was very moved by it.
I liked Rev. Craig a lot too. No high-flying rhetoric, but a plain-spoken Texan, honest, humble, humorous and to the point. Just like our President.
I must get some of his music. That was absolutely wonderful.
That just can't be true! You must be mistaken. Everybody knows that the Founding Fathers were intent on maintaining a separation of Church and State and mostly were deists and non-believers! sarcasm/off

I don't know if it was you, or someone else, commenting that "Trent Lott didn't choose the music." And I don't know if that was meant as a dig against the music yesterday, some of which was unfamiliar to most.
I'd like to offer, however, that I was very inspired by the 2 songs chosen which had been written by Senators Hatch and Ashcroft. Although the melodies were new and unfamiliar (so I'm not sure whether I lik them yet) I thought the lyrics were powerful and inspirational. I think that it was great that our Republican Senators (even though we get mad at them from time to time) were showcased in such a manner -- their art used as a tribute to our President's service to the country.
I hope to find those songs recorded somewhere so that I can listen to them again.
I was way disappointed in that article of hers today. She didn't sound like that yesterday on Fox when the speech was originally given, although she was speechless for a while. She did say that she would have to study it because it took her aback.
Thank goodness someone else witnessed it. MSNBC claimed that it was the President who had to borrow from his Dad and showed footage where 41 handed 43 money. What I saw was GWB giving Cheney some cash. It could be that both men came empty handed as did the twins, LOL.

I really liked "Heal Our Land" by Orrin Hatch. I also liked the renditions of "Bless Our House" and "God of Our Fathers." I am not very fond of Ashcroft's song, and I had heard it before. It just lacks something for me, but that is just a matter of personal taste.
I've been doing some research on the inaugural music to little avail. However, I have found that the joint committee, headed by Trent Lott, chose a theme for the festivities with the help of the Senate historian. They have a website about all of this. I believe they had a reason for choosing all of the music they chose. Maybe they chose the Hatch and Ashcroft songs because they had both been senators. Also, God of Our Fathers was written as a commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Even though the songs were not familiar, they all were symbolic of something.
