Rev. Mary Sulerud is not Presbyterian. She is a priest in the Episcopal Church. She is one of the canons at Washington National Cathedral. Formerly she was rector at the Episcopal Church of Ascension in Silver Spring, MD.

I never fail to hear that song as "God Save The Queen".

The final scene of "Mrs. Miniver" comes to mind, voices rising to Heaven as the camera pans the facade of the bombed out church. I loved that scene.

I sure would love to be there in person, the pipe organ at the National Cathedral is amazing. You can feel the music.

LOL! I love every single thing they have had in this service.

Trent Lott didn't plan it.

Blessing by the Bishop was from Numbers 6:24-26

"The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace."

Why did Bush kiss the Greek orthodox guy? Is that a custom?

Wouldn't be surprised if custom of his is to kiss. Don't the Russians kiss each other a lot?

You are probably right. Bush didn't kiss anyone else.

This was such a wonderful way to begin the next four years. The best part is that you don't have to wonder where the hearts of the Bush family are. You know they are sincere in their love of the Lord and that the President will seek His guidance every day. May God give him the strength he needs for the next four years. And may he have the courage he needs to fight not only our enemies abroad, but his enemies here at home.

"Mansions of the Lord" -- so beautiful, so stirring at the RR funeral.

I didn't know till recently that that song was actually written by the writer of the Mel Gibson film "We Were Soldiers" -- Randall Wallace who wrote the book (and who also wrote "Braveheart") -- heard him say that on Laura Ingraham's show one day.

What a piece of music.

Here's a link to the version from the movie, sung by the West Point Cadet Glee Club.

Thanks for the ping, Howlin, this service today was just lovely.

In the recessional music I heard portions of the melody of "O God, Our Help in Ages Past."
