A Neapolitan mastiff in Manea, United Kingdom, has broken a world record by giving birth to a litter of 24 mastiff puppies, according to a report.
Breeders Damian Ward and his girlfriend, Anne Kellegher, had only been expecting their two-year-old mastiff, Tia, to give birth to a maximum of 10 puppies after a scan from a local veterinarian.
When Tia grew so large she could barely move, the couple took the dog to the vets, who decided that an immediate caesarean was vital. Two hours later, Tia had given birth to the record 24 puppies.
Four of the puppies were too weak and died but the remaining 20 are thriving.
All but three of the pups are up for sale. They are worth more than $1,800 each.
Tia's achievement is now likely to set two records in the Guinness World Records -- the biggest litter and that of the most surviving puppies.
A Guinness World Records spokesman said the current record stands at 23.

Wow. Amazing. Thanks!
Neat tip!
Nasty little bugger, wasn't he?Bye, 24 pups and proud.
"He's dead, Jim!"
Discovered that on a hunch once, useful when you're post number 2 in a zot thread and post 1 is gone.
Welcome.
The only time that doesn't work is if the post data has been completely wiped.
When that happens, you'll see "(Unknown)" in the reply to field.
My goodness! 24! That MIGHT be harder to handle than my two boys, who insist on doing a rendition of "The Lord of the Flies" every day in my house! (j.k.)
We got a new pup over the summer -- a mutt from the pound and he's a GREAT dog!
But good for these folks and the mama dog...she's got her work cut out for her!
Regards,
DOG BREEDERS DONT SUCK.MUTT BREEDERS SUCK. PEOPLE WITH MUTTS LET THERE DOGS RUN LOOSE THERE FOR THE DOG ENDS UP PREGNANT AND THE PUPPIES END UP TO PEOPLE WHO DONT GIVE A DARN OR AT THE ANIMAL SHELTER. WHENS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A PEDIGREE RUNNING DOWN THE STREET. IF YOU PAY GOOD MONEY FOR A DOG YOU TEND TO BE MORE RESPONSIBLE WITH IT.
I am the breeder of those puppies. I had one female and she had one litter only.
She was ‘fixed’ because we did not want her to go through that again!
No one could have predicted she would have so many puppies!
We bottle fed the pups because Mum could not feed so many. It took almost 4 hours to feed twenty pups and they had to be fed every four hours...so ....have a guess how much sleep we had in the first weeks? That’s right ...none! It was exhausting but fantastic to watch them thrive and grow into the strong healthy pups you see in the photo. They are actually 8 weeks old in that picture.
Everyone thinks they brought us riches but the truth is they
cost more to raise than any income from their sale.
Thank you to those who understand and appreciate the work that goes into raising puppies. The negative comments in response to the article are based on ignorance.
Agreed. I’ve had both pound and bred and have always had happy, healthy dogs. I love pembroke welsh corgis and found a rescue group for them in Florida so I went there to get my last two. That’s an alternative for people who want a specific breed- most of them have rescue groups across the country.
