Was the president's speech a case of "mission inebriation"?
It was an interesting Inauguration Day. Washington had warmed up, the swift storm of the previous day had passed, the sky was overcast but the air wasn't painful in a wind-chill way, and the capital was full of men in cowboy hats and women in long furs. In fact, the night of the inaugural balls became known this year as The Night of the Long Furs.
Laura Bush's beauty has grown more obvious; she was chic in shades of white, and smiled warmly. The Bush daughters looked exactly as they are, beautiful and young. A well-behaved city was on its best behavior, everyone from cops to doormen to journalists eager to help visitors in any way.
For me there was some unexpected merriness. In my hotel the night before the inauguration, all the guests were evacuated at 1:45 in the morning. There were fire alarms and flashing lights on each floor, and a public address system instructed us to take the stairs, not the elevators. Hundreds of people wound up outside in the slush, eventually gathering inside the lobby, waiting to find out what next.
The staff--kindly, clucking--tried to figure out if the fire existed and, if so, where it was. Hundreds of inaugural revelers wound up observing each other. Over there on the couch was Warren Buffet in bright blue pajamas and a white hotel robe. James Baker was in trench coat and throat scarf. I remembered my keys and eyeglasses but walked out without my shoes. After a while the "all clear" came,

Rush's comments were measured and he mentioned that he respected her. But Peggy came out with this "over the top" thing last night on H&C. She made a point of slamming GWB on the night of his inaugural, when she was probably a guest of the GOP.
Wow, that's the description the demoRAT party. lol
The inaguration was clearly Christian in its tone. From the wonderful rendision of "Bless this House" to "God of Our Fathers" to the wonderful benediction, this POTUS made it very clear about the role of his faith. Alot of media types are very uncomforrable about that.
According to Peggy a few references to God is "too much". Something wrong with that thinking.
Did he say that her analysis was faulty or did he go after her character, motivation or emotional state? I didn't hear Rush's comments so I just asking.
Rush has done so much for the conservative movement - I hope he didn't saying something like "educated women tend to have a God problem."
Rush Limbaugh just commented on this. He said if ONE Republican Senator stands up and fights against the obstructionist liberals in Congress, then they will be the conservative darlings. Instead, we have Senators who are more concerned with being media darlings (McCain, Hagel) because they plan on running for President.
I know that I will NEVER support McCain during the nomination. Sure I'll vote for him over Hiliary. I'd even support Guiliani over McCain (and I have some serious problems with Guiliani).
The hypocisy is that Reagan mentioned God in every speech he ever gave and made 'God Bless America' a standard closing line for all politicians.
Susan Estrich said a that a fellow member of her party was "off in the head" because he didn't tow the party line. You are saying that a fellow member of your party is "off in the head" because she didn't tow the party line.
Maybe Noonan's analysis is off, but that doesn't mean that something is wrong with her. Most here believe that Bush's analysis of the immigration issue is faulty - again, that doesn't mean that something is wrong with the man.
It would be nice if Inauguration day was a national holiday. How about MLK gets three out of four years and the Inauguration is a holiday on the fourth?

Don't misrepresent. I said she is off in the head because she has a problem with 2 or 3 references to God. I personally find that odd and in line with what liberals in their godlessness say all the time. I'm not towing anything.
In addition, I don't love Peggy Noonan as the majority of Freepers have done in the past (here I have NOT "towed the party line" as you put it). Her style has always been too oozy and wordy for my taste. This anti-God comment reinforces my opinion.

Its better that Hillary get elected than McCain. McCain would damage the country just as much as Hillary would and then Republicans would get the blame. Its the same situation as NYC with Bloomberg - he governs as a liberal and when things get worse, the Republican party is blamed.
At least if the Republicans aren't blamed, the country has a chance of electing a competent conservative the next term. A McCain election would poison the country against republicans for a generation.
