January 20, 2005 -- PHILADELPHIA It did not take any prompting for Donovan McNabb yesterday to mention an aspect of Sunday's NFC Championship game that makes him swell with pride. Tucked within the Eagles-Falcons matchup is a meeting of two African-American quarterbacks, McNabb and Michael Vick.
"It's a special weekend for myself and for him because this is an opportunity for an African-American quarterback to represent in the Super Bowl," McNabb said. "It hasn't happened since Steve McNair [in 2000]. We're looking forward to this challenge and can't wait for it to happen."
Asked about the significance of this achievement, McNabb said, "Well, the larger meaning is that we've kind of stepped over the negative stepping stone of people saying that an African-American quarterback can't lead his team to a Super Bowl. Here you have two who have led their team to great years and have led their team to the NFC Championship for an opportunity to go to the Super Bowl.
"This is kind of the new generation of quarterbacks of guys that are able to do a little bit more than just sit back in the pocket and pass the ball. Things have changed, and it's going to be an exciting day Sunday."

What about Doug Williams and the Redskins?
Isn't this what Rush was talking about during the whole McNabb MNF thing?
They will be the "doormen" opening the limo for the two teams that will be in the Superbowl.
Brady poise versus Vick improvisation. Should be a great 39 (prime number SB's are always interesting).
What a mathematical dumbass I am! But my football prognostication is right on the $$$.
My thought precisely. Everybody has an interest in a black quarterback succeeding (why, I can't say, unless they're closet bigots who see something novel in a black man successfully playing the position), and McNabb shows himself to be something of a hypocrite by indulging in the same thoughts for which he condemned Limbaugh. (I'll still be rooting for him, though.)
Should be exciting watching Vick improvise while staring at the sky from the prone position. If he improvises enough, he might avoid serious injury.
Why does the MSM obsess so over skin color?
When the Falcons beat my Rams, I didn't see Vick as a black quarterback, but as a super talented SOB who beat the living daylights out of my team's defense.
I thought civil rights were about being treated equally? If that's the case, why should he think this game so special because he and Vick are black? They should just be QB's.
Go Steelers (a team not obsessing over skin color).
I hope they both lose.
Vick will master a late game comeback in the early game.
And Bill will fluster Ben, while keeping Duce from the big play (The Bus will be a non-factor. He'll be lucky to have 20 yds on 8 touches)
Trust me... Punxsutawney Phil will be too depressed to even check for his shadow.
I really don't care about the Stillers or their fans. Pittsburghers are the kind of folks you find in an M. Night Shyamalan movie.
Falcons 33
Eagles 24
Falcons 17
Eagles 21
I was about to bet on the Falcons and the Patriots for the SB... I think you just cured me of that.
What the NFL needs are Pygmy quarterbacks. Who says a Pygmy can't win a Superbowl?
What about Brady and Rothlisberger. I guess they just aren't the "right" color.
Is he a Republican? I don't know. Maybe that's why he's no longer black
Isn't this what Rush was talking about during the whole McNabb MNF thing?
This is exactly what Rush was talking about.
michael vick is a quarterback?
Vick is gong to be making snow angels...involuntarily... when Kearse and Dawkins cream him. Eagles 24 Falcons 6.
