Jury Awards Fired Calif. Cop $1.6M

A former Inglewood, Calif., police officer who was fired for punching a black teenager and slamming him against a patrol car in an incident that was captured on videotape was awarded $1.6 million Tuesday by the jury in a discrimination lawsuit he and his partner brought against the city.

The jury voted 11-1 in favor of the verdict for Jeremy Morse, said defense attorney Gregory Smith. He said the jury was unanimous in awarding $810,000 to Morse's partner, Bijan Darvish, who had been disciplined in connection with the 2002 incident.

"This is not the first time police officers have been trapped in race situations where they suffered unfairly," Smith said in a phone interview after the verdict was read. "This will have an impact in police departments across the country."

Congratulations to officer Morse! I watched that video repeatedly and the charges against him were a big honking liberal farce. Totally unjustified.

No kidding. Too bad there are so many out there giving the rest a bad name.

Though, I suppose the same could be said for any segment of society!

--too bad Stacey Koon can't get something like this.

For those with short memories, he was the officer in charge while Rodney King was resisting arrest---

Hold on a minnit! Note that this is just saying that the department (city?) owes him the bux, while the criminal still gets off (if he did.)

I'd like to see the criminal get time and the cop get to keep his job and NOT have the taxpayer pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to LAWYERS.

Yes. This does not make me feel better. Lawyers scamming the system on behalf of the good guys is no better than the other way around. Flame on!

YEEESSSS!! I am so tired of this pandreing to these dope heads. This is great news WOW 1.6 million!!!! take that !!

You have got to be kidding! - This loser cop had no reason to handle this kid the way he did. He is your typical cowboy until real sh*t hits the fan (and then like at Columbine High School these same tough-guy cops sit and hide while other die from their wounds).

And how is it great that the tax-payers will be paying this tool of a cop 1.6 million dollars....How does that help anyone??

He would have never made 1.6 million dollars if he was a cop for the next 20 years.

Yeah, that will teach those contemptable damn taxpayers who will have to foot the bill. This, while the ones who fired the cops will get big fat pay raises. Hey, is Kalifornia a great place or what?

The "kid" tried to squish the cop's testicles. If the "kid" did that to me his head be dotted with a 32oz ball peen hammer.
