Peggy is a good wordsmith, but some of her writing is a bit too precious for my taste.

You may be right, but there are often things we don't know going on.....If she was one of "W" speech writer, which is what she was hired to do after the convention, they usually act as a team, each brain storming on an outline given by "W". "W" then does the final editing...

When I heard what she said, my first reaction was....She wasn't sure how others would perceive it and didn't want to make a public comment at that time....Something I would do if I gone out on a limb and did something I wouldn't normally be known for....NOt wanting to say.."I wrote that speech, isn't it great!" Instead holding comment till later. At least she left her job at the paper, which many of the liberals didn't do.

Michael Gerson (sp) wrote the speech. He's been Bush's speechwriter from the time he came to DC. Karen Hughes was on tv talking about the speech today. The President and Gerson started working on it on Nov. 3rd! The one the President gave was the 22nd draft of the speech.
