80 percent say they plan to vote
By David R. Sands THE WASHINGTON TIMES
A clear majority of Iraqis said they plan to vote in the Jan. 30 elections and remain hopeful about their country's future despite a murderous insurgency, according to a poll to be released today. The countrywide survey, conducted by the Washington-based International Republican Institute (IRI), also found increased popular awareness of the election, closer identification with political parties and a growing level of trust in Iraqi institutions such as the interim government, the police and the election commission.
"What you see is a very, very substantial majority throughout the country, including in the Sunni areas, that wants to make this election a success and to get this whole period behind them," John Anelli, IRI regional director for Iraq, said from Baghdad yesterday. "There's an overwhelming desire for normality, and a large majority sees this vote as a positive step in that direction," he said. Overall, 81.7 percent of those polled said they were "very likely" or "somewhat likely" to vote. Strong majorities in Shi'ite Muslim southern Iraq, in Baghdad and in the Kurdish-dominated north said they intend to vote.

Democrats already claiming voter fraud?
There could be a turnout of 90% and the MSM will still claim it was a low turnout.
International Republican Institute = Old Media won't report it, and DULibs will laugh at it
Where's the rest of the article?
Can you post the link to the Washington Times article?
Even the Suni insurgents decided to turn out when Kerry told them there'd probably be hanging chads in this election
I'm guessing they will have higher % voter turnout than we just did for presidential election. Will that shut the mouth of the leftists? Doubtful.....
I hope all the voting machines work and it doesn't rain. Also, I hope Ken Blackwell is not in charge. ;-)
For the benefit of our DU friends:
"Voting" means that the people will decide for themselves who will govern their country, (or in this case, who will decide how the country will be governed).
I was concerned that you may have misintepreted the word "vote" as meaning "keep recounting until your guy wins", or that you're otherwise unfamiliar with the concept because you apparently are adamantly opposed to the idea of liberating people from governments that don't permit voting.
I hope you understand the concept. If not, please post your questions here on FR and someone here will try to explain it to you.
Have a nice day, and I hope you enjoyed today's inauguration festivities.
Gee, I hope there is an equal distribution of voting machines in Shia and Sunni neighborhoods and that the provisional ballots are counted properly.
Oh, man... will there be a paper trail for the Diebold machines???
In Iraq, "hanging chads" means just that: some guys named "Chad" being hung.
The "Rev." Jesse will be cruising for victims.
I came across it on Laura Ingram site, just easier for me.

I'll bet the voter turnout is higher than our last election in the US, 60%. The only party with a low turnout, will be the Sunni's that make up only 20% of the Iraqi population.
The Iraqi elections will be a disaster, for the naysaysers. Tyranny, be gone.

Oh man I messed up, sorry.http://lauraingraham.com She has a weird name. It's her fault. just kidding
Hey, if the MSM switches to something else, you know it is a marked success.
