A 12-year-old girl was found to be nearly twice the drink-drive limit when she was caught behind the wheel of a car in Wiltshire, it has emerged. Police say the youngster, from Berkshire, was visiting relatives in Swindon on Christmas Day when she took the Vauxhall Corsa for a drive.
The girl, now 13, has pleaded guilty to four offences including driving with excess alcohol.
She will appear at Newbury Youth Court on 31 January for sentencing.
A Crown Prosecution Service spokeswoman said the girl, believed to be one of the youngest people to be charged with drink-driving in the UK, was stopped by officers on the B4006 just outside Swindon.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was breathalysed and gave a reading of 65 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, the spokeswoman said.
The legal limit is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres.
She admitted to driving with excess alcohol, taking a vehicle without consent, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
Oi.
I hate drink-drivers.
But even worse, are those drunk-drovers.
Beat me to it.
Was gonna ask how a person might drive a coca-cola. Those cans are so SMALL. Horsepower must be what, 1/2 to 1?
LOL!
These guys?
That particular car (Vauxhall Corsa) is not much bigger than a coke can.
In Britain, they must refer to "drunk-drivers" and "drunk-driving" as "drink-drivers" and "drink-driving."
Otherwise, the author of this newspaper article was obviously "drink-writing."
It's also easier getting through Christmas with the relatives if you're drunk.
Does anyone know how the British method of measuring blood alcohol (micrograms/100 milliliters) translates to the American BAC%?
You're right, once again divided by a common language :-)
I blame the teletubbies. I know I would have to be drunk to watch that.
"My daughter is in the eighth grade but she drinks at a 12th grade level!"
Is that the celtic rock band The Drovers??
as in "World of Monsters" Drovers? As in "Kill Mice Elf" Drovers???
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL!!
"The legal limit above which you must not drive is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, or 80 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood."
The numbers are the same, using the blood alcohol concentration. In my search, I learned there's a movement to lower the limit to 50 micrograms per 100 milliliters to be like the rest of Europe.
Chicago's finest.
