''Spongebob'' Creator Defends Diversity Video

''Spongebob'' Creator Defends Diversity Video Some Christian conservatives are angry about Spongebob Squarepants. The cartoon character joins peers such as Barney and Clifford ("The Big Red Dog") in a new video about tolerance.

Spongebob (left) appears in what the founder of the Christian conservative group "Focus on the Family" calls a "pro-homosexual video" aimed at school kids.

James Dobson says the cartoon sponge is potentially brainwashing kids by promoting tolerance for all sexual identities.

The video's creator says the remake of the Sister Sledge tune "We are Family" is meant to encourage racial harmony.

Spongebob and other popular characters promote diversity.

Creator Nile Rodgers says the video never mentions sexual identity.

Holy shiite. I had no idea. Dexter's off limits in my house from now on.

Got any insight into Jimmy Neutron or The Proud Family?

Dude, he and his special friend Patrick live together...

Wrong! They are neighbors. Spongebob lives in a pineapple, while Patrick lives under a rock. If there is anyone who is gay, its Squidward.

They do not live together and have never shown anything but friendship to one another.

Quite likely the episode you mentioned has the answer to the problem you perceive. I know there was one wherein they had a squabble and were pretending that they were no longer best friends.

As far as I've seen, they're ok (my daughter watches them from time to time, too). But I found this article and it's bizarre, to say the least:

Queertoons
The dynamics of same-sex desire in the animated cartoon
by Jeffery P. Dennis

On the treshold of the 1950s and 1960s there were many animated cartoons featuring same-sex couples like Hanna-Barbera's famous Yogi Bear and Booboo. The relationships between these characters were always kept vague and unclear. Were they just buddies, relatives or lovers? Taking a long-term view on its history, sociologist Jeffery P. Dennis here describes the presentation of same-sex desire in the animated cartoon, ranging from Bugs Bunny and Yogi Bear, by way of the Smurfs, Ren and Stimpy, Pinky and the Brain and Spongebob Squarepants, to the Simpsons, South Park and Dexter's Laboratory...

(Excerpt)

And we also know that Mr. Krabs is really Satan incarnate using the guise of a preacher to bring misery on the land!

To WhiteGuy:

I have nothing against the Kroffts! I regularly watched "H. R. Pufnstuf" and was absolutely fascinated by "Lidsville" (I wasn't a little kid when it was on, but found another world in a hat quite intruguing). I must admit that I never got "The Bugaloos" and am not familiar with the Kroffts' later stuff.

To newgeezer:

Yowsah! Yowsah! Yowsah!

To waverna:

How could anyone forget "Lidsville???" Unfortunately, most people have forgotten the wonderful NBC series "The Tomfoolery Show" (which gave me a lifelong love of Edward Lear). Then again, I've read that Edward Lear was homosexual, so maybe that was a nefarious plot as well.

So now you're accusing me of being a homosexual because I think the idea that Spongebob is a closet homo corrupting the youth is stupid? Boy, lets break out the tin foil hats and start the Inquisition.

My son understands that only women wear dresses and lipstick, and that if a man wears dresses then there is something wrong with him. A "diversity" video like this will not have any impact on his understanding. Parents need to teach their children values.

Actually, most hermaphrodites are steril and both sets are not effective. So he might just be a monosexual, which sponges are anyways.

Oh, calm down. All right, my apologies to you for the uncalled for hyperbole in my post to you.

I didn't say Spongebob was a closet homo (I've never even seen the show). However, the campaign of which the video in question is a part is most definitely part of the homosexual movement.

I am suitably corrected. And this one post has gotten more comments than I've received in three years here! Amazing!

"Who do you think was hotter? Betty or Wilma?"

Cat: I believe without a doubt that Wilma Flinstone is the sexiest woman who ever lived.

Lister: What about Betty?

Cat: Well... I'd go with Betty. (sigh) But I'd be thinking of Wilma.

...

...

Cat: This is an insane conversation.

Lister: Yeah. Totally ridiculous. (pause) She'd never leave Fred and we know it.

From Red Dwarf. One of the funniest shows ever.

Don't be ridiculous, people! This is so stupid.

NO WAY would the pro-homosexual lobby try to infiltrate schools.
