"I vote for 'useful idiot'."

I vote for Communist CROOK extrordinaire. I used to think Carter was an incompetent boob who blithely went from one disaster to the next always managing to leave a trail of damage to the country in his wake and never finding a communist dictator that he couldn't support at the expense of his own country. Then I read this article on FreeRepublic last fall from "Defense & Foreign Affairs Daily," 3/2/04 titled "The Role of Former Pres. Carter Emerging in Illegal Financial Demands on the Shah of Iran" by Alan Peters. http://rescueattempt.tripod.com/id24.html

I have been waiting for Carter's name to turn up in the UN's Oil for Food scam. Once you realize he is nothing but a crook all the bumbling idiotic appearing stuff he's done all makes sense.

Rôle of US Former Pres. Carter Emerging in Illegal Financial Demands on Shah of Iran

Exclusive. Analysis. By Alan Peters, 1 GIS.

Some quotes:

Strong intelligence has begun to emerge that US President Jimmy Carter attempted to demand financial favors for his political friends from the Shah of Iran. The rejection of this demand by the Shah could well have led to Pres. Carter's resolve to remove the Iranian Emperor from office.

>snip<

Historians and observers still debate Carter's reasons for his actions during his tenure at the White House, where almost everything, including shutting down satellite surveillance over Cuba at an inappropriate time for the US, seemed to benefit Soviet aims and policies. Some claim he was inept and ignorant, others that he was allowing his liberal leanings to overshadow US national interests.

The British Foreign & Commonwealth Office had enough doubts in this respect, even to the extent of questioning whether Carter was a Russian mole, that they sent around 200 observers to monitor Carter's 1980 presidential campaign against Ronald Reagan to see if the Soviets would try to "buy" the presidency for Carter.

In the narrow aspect of Carter setting aside international common sense to remove the US' most powerful ally in the Middle East, this focused change was definitely contrary to US interests and events over the next 25 years proved this.

>snip<

Faced with this growing pressure and threat, the monarch still could not believe that Iran, the staunchest US ally in the region, other than Israel, would be discarded or maimed so readily by Carter, expecting he would be prevailed upon by more experienced minds to avoid destabilizing the regional power structure and tried to explain his position.

>snip<

Rumor has always had it that Carter had tried to negotiate to have the US hostages, held for 444 days by the Islamic Republic which he had helped establish in Iran, released just before the November 1980 election date, but that opposition (Republican) candidate Ronald Reagan had subverted, taken over and blocked the plan. An eye-witness account of the seizure by "students" of the US Embassy on November 4, 1979, in Tehran confirms a different scenario.

>snip<

Carter was also deeply troubled by public scandals involving his family, including a mysterious $250,000 payment by the government of Libya to Carter's brother Billy. Foreign affairs during the Carter administration were equally troublesome. Critics thrashed both Carter's plans to relinquish control of the Panama Canal and his response to Soviet aggression in Afghanistan by pulling out of the Olympics and ending the sale of wheat to the Russians. That restriction on American farmers decimated the heartland of America.

The cause of much of the misery in today's world can be laid at the feet of Jimmy Carter. He started this entire cycle when he refused to kill the murdering mullahs who seized our embassy. Then, he started to dismantle our intel agencies which set up 9/11 with the help of Gorelick. ~ by Grampa Dave

Carter also demonstrated to Islamists that the US could be pushed around by taking hostages.
Carter should have told the Ayatollah to relaease the hostages instantly or face a devastating air assault on all of the government and Muslim buildings in the country. ~ Beckwith

The Iranian Revolution is THE event of the 20th century for which the world has yet to come to grips. Carter's role in the Revolution is far greater than the appropriately maligned Chamberlain of WWII fame. Carter did not look the other way - he forced the Shah to abandon Iran to the freakish hell of Islamic Fascism. Thanks to Hezbolah, that facism has spread through the entire middle east, destroying Lebanon, providing the Baath Party of Syria & Iraq a reason to exist, and destroying any legitimate hope of Palestinian Arabs to find a home. Thanks Jimmy. ~XHogPilot

Yes, but I have serious doubts there'll be a serious investigation into any former president... Democratic former president that it!

If no one can bring up Ramsey Clark for treason, how is Carter going to be brought up? The old double standard at work here too.

Think it is fair to call Carter; a 'Financial Traitor'. . .and maybe worse.

Have been waiting. . .waiting. . .as well; for the Demrat political flotsam to rise to the top in this horrific scandal. . .

No doubt, we can count that the monies shared with the Clinton's - say. . .by Mark Rich'; and maybe others.. . is safely banked; far from public scrutiny. . .

Well. . .I was in hurry. ..but finally read the 'rest of the story'. . .from the beginning that is.

We have all witnessed - and suffered - the public side of Carter's patriotism..

Too late to investigate? NEVER! Unless the person being investigated is Democrat. . .

Assuming that this info is not cross-referenced at Carter's 'Justice Center'. . .

Of course he's not to be trusted. He was one of the slimiest presidents we've ever had. I still don't see him risking the most important things in his life for money.
