Dems may delay Rice Vote

BC-Senate-Rice, 14th Ld,320 URGENT Rice given approval by Senate panel; Democrats will delay confirmation at least until next week Eds: TOPS to UPDATE with Democratic plans By BARRY SCHWEID AP Diplomatic Writer WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Democrats intend to delay Condoleezza Rice's confirmation as secretary of state at least until next week rather than grant her Inauguration Day approval, a spokesman said Wednesday. "There are a number of Democrats not on the committee that want to have a chance to debate her nomination a couple of hours," said Manley, a spokesman for Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. He said Democrats would not seek to prevent Rice's confirmation as the nation's top diplomat, and he predicted her approval within a matter of days. Rice cleared the Foreign Relations Committee earlier in the day, 16-2, a lopsided vote that belied hours of skeptical questioning by Democrats critical of President Bush's foreign policy and his conduct of the war in Iraq. By contrast, Manley said he expected that Democrats would assent to confirmation on Thursday just after the inauguration of two members of Bush's second-term Cabinet. They are Mike Johans, nominated as secretary of agriculture, and Margaret Spellings, named to take over as education secretary. The Senate developments unfolded as the nation's outgoing top diplomat, Secretary of State Colin Powell, bid farewell to the workers he called his "family" at the State Department. Powell has not yet formally resigned his post, and isn't expected to do so until Rice is formally sworn in. "You were my troops, you were America's troops," the former Army general told the workers. "You are the carriers of America's values." He called Rice "a dear friend" and said she would bring "gifted leadership" to the department. Rice surmounted two days of sometimes contentious questioning - mostly by Democrats - on the administration's prosecution of the war.

"They are being spiteful because this accomplished,
brilliant and beautiful woman is a Conservative Republican:"

Add, that she has more CLASS.   Something
the dumb misguided Dems have long ago lost.

What they mean is that a bunch of their prima donas want to have their face on TV - so we have to accomodate them.

They just keep digging the hole deeper.

I think I read somewhere that some dems were very critical of Kerry's performance with Dr. Rice - their comments were off the record (of course) at some inaugural party.

Two words for the Dims: Clarence Thomas.

If they pull this garbage off, they'll look like the biggest baws-hawg racists this side of ku klux klandom.

It's time to start painting the Dims with the Klan brush. They're going too far.

What's even more disgusting? That the Republicans will ALLOW this.

When your opponent is in the process of defeating himself, the best thing to do is get out of his way and let him complete the job.

We hear you LOUD and Clear FRiend. That this MOCKERY of a Senator remains in the Senate is a slap in the face to all who died and served.

The he had the audacity to vote NO on Dr. Rice. He isn't fit to kiss the ground she walks on.

BTW, thought you might be interested in this e-mail we got today. I haven't had a chance to email the chaplan yet. But here you go. He said to distribute it.

Subject: Urgent prayer request from a chaplain in
Iraq

This is an Urgent Prayer Request from Iraq!
Please pass it on to anyone
who will pray:

As a transportation battalion, my unit will be
delivering the voting
machines and the ballots to villages and cities
throughout Iraq during
the
upcoming elections. (January 30/31) Our convoys
are prime targets for
the insurgents because they do not want the
equipment to arrive at
the polling stations nor do they want the local
Iraqi citizens to have
the chance to vote; timely delivery must occur so
that the elections
occur.

Encourage your friends and family members and
those within our churches
to pray specifically for the electoral process.
Historically, the
previous totalitarian regime would not allow
individual citizens to
vote. Democracy will not be realized in Iraq if
intelligent and
competent officials
are not elected to tho! se strategic leadership
positions within the
emerging government; freedom will not have an
opportunity to ring
throughout
this country if the voting process fails.

Announce this prayer request to your contacts
throughout your churches,
neighborhoods, and places of business. Those with
leadership roles
within the local church post this message in as
many newsletters and
bulletins as possible.

There is unlimited potential for God's presence
in this process but if we do not pray then our
enemy will prevail (See
Ephesians 6:10-17) A prayer vigil prior to the
end of the month may be
an
innovative opportunity for those within your
sphere of influence to
pray. This is a political battle that needs
spiritual intervention. A
powerful story about God's intervention in the
lives of David's mighty
men is recorded in 2 Samuel 23:8-33. David and
his warriors were
victorious because of God's intervention. We
want to overcome those who
would stand in the way of f! reedom. David's
mighty men triumphed
over
incredible odds and stood their ground and were
victorious over the
enemies of Israel. (Iraqi insurgents' vs God's
praying people). They
don't
stand a chance.

I will pray with my soldiers before they leave
on their convoys and
move outside our installation gates here at
Tallil. My soldiers are at
the nerve
center of the logistic operation to deliver the
voting machines and
election ballots. They will be driving to and
entering the arena of the
enemy.
This is not a game for them it is a historical
mission that is extremely dangerous. No voting
machines or ballots. No
elections. Your prayer support and God's
intervention are needed to
give democracy a chance in this war torn
country. Thank you for reading
this e-mail. Please give this e-mail a wide
dissemination.

Thank you for your prayer support for me and my
family. Stand firm in
your battles.

Blessings,

CH (CPT) Lyle Shackelford

The State Department is jam-packed with socialists, appeasers, leakers, and scumbags. I hope Condi does a "Porter Goss" on the place.
