New York Times gets the Bum Rush at Walter Reed
Posted on 01/19/2005 11:11:26 AM PST by wtc911
Contacts at WRAMC tell me that reporters from the NYT were ejected from the post yesterday after walking around and interviewing recovering soldiers. The Times people entered the facility unannounced, uninvited and unescorted. They were "asked" to leave when the PAO found out what they were up to. It is unlikely they will be invited back.

Someplace on the media the other day someone threatened (joking) Michael Moore if he showed up with cameras ... was it Clint Eastwood???
The advantage of Michael Moore is that you know he's going to lie and have his film pretend to be true.
A newsie postures as an honest man and then has his report be a mix of half-truths.
Better the liar I know, than the.....

To trust a newspaper guy is to practice gross negligence.

I agree with you whole heartedly Miss Marple. As a matter of fact I have wondered just why the American public doesn't start treating these "journalist" the way they deserve to be treated.
If we can't quite bring ourselves to spit on them, or throw rotting veggies at them, at least point, whisper and laugh at every public opportunity.

How exactly did they get in?
I just got back from Travis AFB and security has changed since I was there last. It used to be you could get on with your base sticker even if you looked like Osama. Now you need the sticker and a valid ID. If you don't have the sticker, you need a visitor's pass. They looked like they were serious, too.
Now I know why my father has been after me to take him to get his new sticker.

Now THAT's a logical conclusion.

Reminds me of an incident in 1970 or 1971 when I was stationed at Hickam AFB. A colonel's daughter was attending Univ of Hawaii and got involved with the antiwar scum. One day she drove a couple of them out to Hickam, was waved through the guard gate and saluted because of the eagle insignia on her base sticker. Then she drove the to Hq PACAF, which at the time didn't have controlled access, and led them in the doors and up the stairs to DCS/Operations where the scum walked into an office and poured chicken blood into an open safe. The two majors were astounded, but immediately jumped up and beat the crap out of the scum, and someone quickly called security. The scum had the nerve to try to sue the two majors for kicking their a$$es.
Needless to say security got tightened up immediately. And the colonel and his family left the island permanently that evening.

When are we going to properly instruct our soldiers not to give uncleared interviews with the media.
We know full well what the NYT will do with the information. If I was a family member and they used my child's statements wrongly - I would be in their face - and they would be talking to my lawyer.
And .. if they were allowed to just walk into the hospital .. I'd say there needs to be somebody at the front door asking people why they are there.

Lock them up! Any NYT trash poking around among real Americans should be jailed and charged with treason and harassment. If they want to visit a hospital full of vets they should be admitted with massive wounds for their treason.

How did they get in? When I go to Walter Reed I have to show a photo ID and say what relative I'm visiting.
