I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm bothered by #8.
Obviously some cultures are vastly superior to others. And I'm bothered that the U.S. State Deaprtment won't recognize that our own culture -- the culture they're supposed to be representing -- is the best in the world. Anyone who can't see that doesn't deserve a paycheck from U.S. taxpayers.

The old saw that "foreign aid is when the poor people of a rich country give money to the rich people of a poor country" has more than a kernel of truth.Another gem from Diplomad.

"We are bureaucrats. We like things tidy...."
Since when is this? The more bungled and confused things can be the more bureaucrats are needed -- and the longer so -- to sort out the bureaucrat-created mess.

I think you need to read #8 again as you both make the same point although your is a stronger statement.

If only I could get my "friends" and relatives to believe this. Heck, If I could only get them to even read this.

Secretary of State Rice needs to call these guys back home and have them clean out the Augean Stables in the State Department. There may be nothing left when they get done, but that would be better than what's there now.

The real truth, that Lee Harvey Oswald, a nut-case, acted alone to assassinate JFK, is inescapable when you read the facts. This is pure bovine excrement...

I think you need to read #8 again as you both make the same point.Absolutely. The Diplomad and I agree on the superiority of Western culture. I was just expressing shock at the point where he reports that this belief is not welcome at the State Department -- that's news to me and I'm unhappy (not surprised) to hear it.

I'm going to go with The Diplomad on that one.

Note from the Chief Diplomad: Not long ago I read about the freezing winters that Mongolia has suffered. Being a charitable person, I now drive my SUV in honor of the Mongolians. Bumper sticker: Driving for Mongolia!)
That is awesome. I want one now.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm bothered by #8. I'm bothered by all of them. Even more especially by people thinking that the UN has any legitimate value to Americans.
Its my experience from contact with the most Washington Bureaucrats that they simply tolerate the rest of us. Many seem to be taking the attitude that they are waiting out Bush until they are saved by Hillary.
