CAMBRIA - A 20-year-old woman accused of torching a vacant building on the old Nike Base on Eagle Drive had been a volunteer with a Cheektowaga fire company and was "upset" over failing to receive the firefighter of the year award, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said Sunday. Tammy Lagowski, of Cheektowaga, and Jeremy Klubek, 20, of West Seneca, were arrested Jan. 9 on charges of third-degree burglary, third-degree arson and second-degree criminal mischief.
Lagowski reportedly was suspended from Doyle Hose Company 1 after her arrest. Police said they believe Klubek also was a firefighter.
"(Lagowski) had just come from an installation dinner, and she was upset because she didn't get firefighter of the year," Sheriff's Sgt. Patrick Needle said. "It's just a crying shame. I don't know what we'd do without volunteer firefighters.

Isn't there a disproportionally high percentage of firebugs in fire departments?

Geeze, I suppose we ought to be happy she was not working at a nuclear base or something. What a total bimbo.

No more than there is a disproportionately high rate of wife beaters in the police Department.

"Isn't there a disproportionally high percentage of firebugs in fire departments?" I don't think there is but you sure hear about the ones that are found out. A gal who worked for the Forest Service (I think) here in Colorado torched a love letter during our drought so she could "heroically" put out the fire and receive recognition (thus thumbing her nose at her ex, I guess). Needless to say, a 137,000+ acres went up in smoke.
The Forest Service connection was all people talked about for months. It's like it wouldn't have been such a hideous crime if she's been an accountant or something.

Isn't there a disproportionally high percentage of firebugs in fire departments? like, perhaps, thugs who become cops, pedophiles who become clergymen; are you suggesting a pattern?

arsonist and fireman can be two sides of a very thin coin....

Cambria is about 10 miles from Pendleton, NY. Home of Tim McVeigh.
Just sayin'....

And you live in New York? A breathtaking statement, especially post-911.

She was no doubt discriminated against by the male hierarchy. Everyone [in blue states] KNOWS that she should have won the award simply because she is a woman in a male dominated field, so that it could be shown how much more superior a woman can do the job.
Sarcasm off.

Isn't there a disproportionally high percentage of firebugs in fire departments? As a firefighter friend of my says, "Why do you think they call it the Fire Department?"
