Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., accused Secretary of State-nominee Condoleezza Rice on Tuesday of using "falsehoods" about weapons of mass destruction to justify attacking Iraq.
But six years ago, Boxer enthusiastically backed President Clinton's decision to attack Iraq after he argued that Saddam Hussein was prepared to use chemical, biological and nuclear weapons against the world.
During Dr. Rice's Senate confirmation hearing today, Boxer said, "I personally believe - this is my personal view - that your loyalty to the mission you were given, to sell this war, overwhelmed your respect for the truth"
The California Democrat insisted that the Iraq war "was based on what everyone now says, including your own administration, were falsehoods about WMDs, weapons of mass destruction."
In December 1998, however, after Clinton launched four days of air strikes on Iraq's suspected WMD targets, the California Democrat had a different reaction.
In quotes unearthed Tuesday afternoon by radio host Sean Hannity, Boxer claimed that Saddam had forced Clinton's hand.
"The president had no choice but to act today," she said in a statement ussued by her office. "Anyone who questions the timing of his decision ignores the fact that we committed a month ago to act if [chief U.N. weapons inspector] Richard Butler reported that Saddam was not cooperating."
"These critics are blinded by political considerations," Boxer added.
And has it occurred to Boxer that Bush went to war because it was the right thing to do, not because he needed to distract attention from some barely post-adolescent slut?
Throw Boxer into the lion compound at the San Diego Zoo and the big cats would bury her in a sandy spot.
As long as Barbara Boxer is in the senate extremely stupid women will have a voice in washington.
"Iraq made commitments after the Gulf War to completely dismantle all weapons of mass destruction, and unfortunately, Iraq has not lived up to its agreement." -- Barbara Boxer, November 8, 2002
This boxer chump is really a filthy piece of work. Can CA do a recall on her and send her back to the soup line? How on earth did enough idiots manage to vote for this nutcase?
She looked like stupid witch, with wild hair, Condi wiped floor with boxerette.
I agree, can we recall a senator?
I wish Condi would go in tomorrow morning with one of those big poster boards that the Senators love to use to emphasize their propaganda, with all of Boxer's previous quotes re: Iraq that you have just brought up.
Wonder how big Boxer's eyes would be if she whipped that out and started pointing to each, read it out loud, and then just look at Boxer and say,"Any questions?"
Nov. '06 is looking better every day! : )
Ah, but the highly intelligent and clearly annoyed Dr. Rice made Boxer look like the fool she so obviously is. You did well, Condi - God Bless!
She has not lived up to this agreement!
Post #13 - Which one is Boxer?
But she's one of the best faces for Conservatives. Each time she speaks, more Democrats must wonder what the hell is happening to their party and consider switching.
Thanks for the quote, but I just saw Hannity debate this on this TV show, and didn't use Boxer's quotes from 98---
Alan used clips from the hearing to make fun of Condi and Bush, but I wonder why Sean didn't use Boxer's previous statements about Iraq?
