President and Laura Bush attended “Saluting Those Who Serve” today, honoring members of our Armed Forces at an event that helped kick off his second Inauguration, in which, contrary to media reports, he is celebrating the clear mandate he received from the American people on November 2nd. His father and mother, former President George H. W. Bush, and former First Lady, Barbara Bush also attended the event, where President Bush 41 recounted his World War II experiences.

President Bush is working on his Inaugural Address which concentrates on the themes of freedom abroad, and an ownership society at home.

Also today (all day), Condoleezza Rice appeared at her Senate confirmation hearing before the committee that will confirm her as Secretary of State. ENJOY your trip to Sanity Island, and the Daily Dose!!

Quote of the Day: The inauguration of a President is a great moment in the life of our country. With an election behind us, the American people come together in unity to celebrate our freedom. A presidential inauguration is a testament to the power of democracy, a symbol of our confidence in the popular will, and a sign of hope for freedom-loving people everywhere.

We are blessed to live in hopeful times, when the promise of liberty is spreading across the world. In the last four years, more than 50 million people have joined the ranks of the free. (Applause.) The people of Afghanistan have thrown off an outlaw regime, and chosen a President in the first free elections in that nation's 5,000-year history. (Applause.) And in coming days, the Iraqi people will have their chance to go to the polls, to begin the process of creating a democratic government that will answer to the people, instead of to a thug and a tyrant. (Applause.)

These are landmark events in the history of liberty. And none of it would have been possible without the courage and the determination of the United States Armed Forces. (Applause.)

Does anyone know of this event will be televised? Maybe by C-SPAN -- if they can tear themselves away from the latest obscure conference being held by and for Leftist/Dems.

Very cool that the President and First Lady were sitting in the middle of all those fine members of the military. Isn't that the First Lady's mom sitting next to her?

Ha! Not likely. They're in love with themselves today.

Hey there!

Cheney looks thrilled.

Yeah, he looks kind of solemn. I wonder if it was just the moment. As a former SecDef, I know he loves the troops.
