President and Laura Bush attended Saluting Those Who Serve today, honoring members of our Armed Forces at an event that helped kick off his second Inauguration, in which, contrary to media reports, he is celebrating the clear mandate he received from the American people on November 2nd. His father and mother, former President George H. W. Bush, and former First Lady, Barbara Bush also attended the event, where President Bush 41 recounted his World War II experiences.
President Bush is working on his Inaugural Address which concentrates on the themes of freedom abroad, and an ownership society at home.
Also today (all day), Condoleezza Rice appeared at her Senate confirmation hearing before the committee that will confirm her as Secretary of State. ENJOY your trip to Sanity Island, and the Daily Dose!!
He had a huge "VETERANS for BUSH" sign in his college apartment window. :o)
Slapping my forehead right now! Of course!
Oh boy! I'm cable deprived and will be looking forward to seeing your Inaugural Ball pics. Have a wonderful time!
Isn't that right! He has such a true and natural sense of humor but also knows when it is time to get serious. I love his dry wit! Unfortunately the media just don't get it and make fun of him whenever they can. Who needs 'em!!!
She has a new book she's been pushing .. seen her on a couple of talk shows. Her face has gotten very hardened and unattractive .. don't know what it is . .. probably some bad surgical help. BTW, she was voted worst dressed at the Golden Globes. I always thought she was victimized (which she probably was) by the Royals, but I've also come to believe she's quite kooky and a loose cannon.
Great pics tonight on the Dose!
Look at the closed eyes of these two soldiers during the pledge .. very touching and revealing.
This is a beautiful, memorable photo .. just gorgeous. No other First Couple has EVER been so attractive, photogenic and FIRST CLASS, both together and individually ... God's love, and their own for each other, just glows radiantly on their faces..
I think this was the subject of Brit Hume's show closing funny .. but I'm not sure. Darrell Hammond of SNL was doing one of his famous impressions at an event .. Rumsfeld was present, so it could've been here. He did an apparently hilarious impression of Rummy running a press conference, in his usual professional, facts only, no nonsense way, and had the room hysterically laughing, including Rumsfeld, who looked like this .. just cracking up.
Well, we are very proud of him, too! I have a son in the Air Force, and while he hasn't been in the war, he is on a ship somewhere in the Middle East, and I know the uneasiness of not knowing exactly where he is or what is going on! The good part is he will only be gone for a couple of months.
Picture 1 and 2 of post 36 - I wouldn't mind sitting among the Bush(es) either.
24-hour rabies--LOL!
We have plenty of blank tapes in the stores, but very few regular vidoe tapes to rent and watch, at least here in our small town. Good luck!
Yeah, yeah, I know . . . I didn't realize what I'd typed, till I hit "post".
I saw our W's motorcade arriving at the MCI center yesterday for this event. It is always a thrill.
Tonight, I'll be volunteering at the Candlelight Dinner #2 at the National Building Museum, one of the Inaugural events where our W and Laura will be attending.
Tomorrow night (Jan 20th) I'm volunteering at the Commander-in Chief's Ball. I'll try to remember everything so I can post on the Dose on Friday.
I'm absolutely giddy with excitement.
More later...
I'm excited just thinking about all my FRiends who are taking part in this monumental, historic event!!
And I think you're right that it was the SNL skit that Rummy was laughing about.
OH wow, you definitely need to report in. Be our roving gossip columnist! Have a wonderful time.
Interesting 'look' Laura has in that photo...........protecting what belongs to her alone. :o)
The only thing that gets you through is faith that they are in God's almighty and loving hands.........AND that you are SO proud that they have chosen to serve America in such a noble way!
Have fun! I hope you get to meet the guests of honor in person. Can you take pictures?
