Microsoft is showing off its Smarter Retailing initiative this week at the National Retail Federation (NRF) convention in New York. Several Microsoft partners are announcing products based on, or supporting, Windows Embedded for Point of Service, a specialized version of XP Embedded aimed at the retail and hospitality industries
..................
Hewlett-Packard -- will offer Windows Embedded for POS on its rp5000 POS device, a PC-like device with additional functionality to support POS requirements.
.............

Microsoft claims that Windows Embedded for POS will be the first retail-optimized software platform to provide plug-and-play functionality to enable retail peripherals to be easily installed and managed. Additionally, Microsoft says that it is collaborating with 40 companies to develop solutions compatible with the new Windows Embedded-based POS OS.

" Try one, you might learn something"

I am enjoying your frustration enormously.
I know you open source guys can wiggle but heck, right now you are wiggling more than even Slick Willie did when he was caught lying.
Listen, you can run, but you can't hide.
Its still sour grapes. :)
And I am loving it.

Consumers don't think Apple is right.

Allow me to unravel this.

Microsoft has dominated the market of personal computers.

Consumers who have an Apple product know how much better a product, more useful, more user friendly, it is.

Most consumers think IBM clone PC's are the 'best' because they never had anything else.

Right now, PC's are the best bet because of the variety of softwares available.

The Windows OS is a overgrown monster, but it is what most use, and most people would never think of anything else to use.

IBM and MicroSoft worked in tandem to MARKET the hell out of PC's and WINDOWS, Gates has profited the most from it.

Apple never tried to dominate the market, force worthless crap down people's throats, lie about it's products, just to get rich.

That is why the 'better operating system' is not the most purchased operating system.

Its still sour grapes. :)

It could be jealousy, but not sour grapes. Learn the language.

"Allow me to unravel this"

You couldn't.

"IBM and MicroSoft worked in tandem to MARKET the hell out of PC's and WINDOWS"

Apple marketed the hell out of their computers.
Remember that famous Super Bowl ad?

"Apple never tried to dominate the market, force worthless crap down people's throats, lie about it's products, just to get rich. "

Come, come.
Steve Jobs wanted to dominate the world even more than Gates did.
I don't know anyone who has a bigger ego than Steve Jobs does, and I am including Larry Ellison here.

"That is why the 'better operating system' is not the most purchased operating system"
Jobs priced his computers at high prices, refused to license it to others (apart from a brief period) and made lots of screw ups.
Apple is exactly where they deserve to be.

And its PDA's I was talking about when I mentioned 0.9% market share in my post.

Of course it was. You magically switched the subject we were on in order to spout irrelevant statistics.

BTW, "strong industry partnerships" is called good business.

Not when it's Microsoft. Learn the company's history and how they deal with their "partners."

Its probably both.
Sour grapes? You bet.

"Of course it was. You magically switched the subject we were on in order to spout irrelevant statistics"

Nope.
Its spelled out in black and white in my post # 9.
And of course it's VERY relevant.
Naturally its"irrelevant" if you are an open source fanatic, and you find your market share dwindling to a miserable 0.9% while Microsoft continues to soar. :)

"Not when it's Microsoft. Learn the company's history and how they deal with their "partners."

I'll bet that Microsoft partners like HP know more about dealing with Microsoft than you do (Compaq which is now part of HP grew to be a very big company on the back of Microsoft software).
The fact that they have still partnered with Microsoft and very profitably driven up the market share for both PDA'a and embedded shows that they know what they are doing far more than you do. :)

Steve Jobs wanted to dominate the world even more than Gates did.

I'm sure he did. Apple lost its dominance when IBM decided to use its muscle to get in on the PC business (it had been growing at 150% per year until then). Its a perfect example of a far inferior OS (early DOS) winning over a superior OS through sheer brute force. In addition to that, Apple is still suffering from 12 years of mismanagement without Jobs.

Its probably both. Sour grapes? You bet.

Jealousy is often a reason for "sour grapes," but jealousy alone does not constitute sour grapes. As the post was directed at a competitor in the market and not the market itself, the statement couldn't have been sour grapes.

Learn the language. If you're not still in middle school, you're definitely the poster boy for a failed school system.

Its spelled out in black and white in my post # 9.

How do you know what my browser color settings are? Anyway, you never switched context from POS to PDA before making the statement. That's bad debating practice.

I'll bet that Microsoft partners like HP know more about dealing with Microsoft than you do

I bet Sendo does too. Until the antitrust settlement, Microsoft bullied all of its OEM partners, including Dell, Compaq and Gateway, including using the threat of higher licensing fees if the OEMs did various things.

Listen, I have been laughing so loud here at you.
You really crack me up.
I love it that Microsoft is clobbering Linux in yet another market, and all the open source crazies can come up with is (in a high pitched whiny voice): "Hey it wasn't sour grapes"
Now that is really pathetic.
That the best you can do?
Bottom line, Linux has 0.9% of the PDA market, and still sinking fast.
Its enough to give me a very broad smile..all day.

BTW, its still sour grapes.
You simply reek of it.

BTW, I'd back my education against yours any day. If what you post here is any indication, you don't seem to have a whole lot of sense.

Obviously educated beyond your intelligence. I politely (initially) remind you of a common misuse of a popular term and you go way off on these rants.

Bottom line, Linux has 0.9% of the PDA market, and still sinking fast.

Do I care? Nope. I personally prefer Palm. The others feel too much like they've tried to shoehorn a desktop OS into a handheld, which is exactly the case.

"How do you know what my browser color settings are?"

Hey, I forgot.
You use the communist browser.Who knows what weird colors you guys get up to?
BTW, the "Its spelled out in black and white" is not meant to be taken literally.
Thought I'd tell you that. :)

"I bet Sendo does too"

Sendo is not HP.
They don't even come close.

"Until the antitrust settlement, Microsoft bullied all of its OEM partners, including Dell, Compaq and Gateway, including using the threat of higher licensing fees if the OEMs did various things."
"Various things"? Like voodoo? LOL!
Bottom line, HP has been doing very profitable business with Microsoft in the PDA business with the Ipaq, and in the embedded business as well.
Plus HP as Compaq has been dealing with Microsoft for nearly as long as anyone .
They know about doing business with Microsoft, and they are doing splendidly right now.

You are really cracking me up today.
Can we have more of these inane sayings from you?

"Do I care? Nope. I personally prefer Palm. The others feel too much like they've tried to shoehorn a desktop OS into a handheld, which is exactly the case"

So you DO care after all?
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Poor guy.

I think the posters were referring to software partners. Software partners are mostly just future roadkill.

Sendo is not HP.

No, Sendo was a Microsoft partner that Microsoft raped, then settled the following lawsuit.

"Various things"? Like voodoo? LOL!

Like configuring systems as they wish, putting a link to or installing non-Microsoft software, or offering other operating systems for sale.
