BOSTON Sen. John Kerry (search), in some of his most pointed public comments yet about the presidential election, invoked Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy on Monday as he criticized President Bush and decried reports of voter disenfranchisement (search). The Massachusetts Democrat, Bush's challenger in November, spoke at Boston's annual Martin Luther King Day Breakfast. He reiterated that he decided not to challenge the election results, but "thousands of people were suppressed in the effort to vote." "Voting machines were distributed in uneven ways. In Democratic districts, it took people four, five, eleven hours to vote, while Republicans (went) through in 10 minutes - same voting machines, same process, our America," he said. In his comments, Kerry also compared the democracy-building efforts in Iraq with voting in the U.S., saying that Americans had their names purged from voting lists and were kept from casting ballots. "In a nation which is willing to spend several hundred million dollars in Iraq to bring them democracy, we cannot tolerate that too many people here in America were denied that democracy," Kerry said. Voting irregularities in Ohio drove primarily Democratic challenges to the Nov. 2 election, but Congress eventually affirmed President Bush the winner by a slim electoral vote count of 286-251 - plus a single vote cast by a Minnesota elector for Kerry's running mate, former Sen. John Edwards (search).

Someone really ought to make him document those scurrilous charges.
Okay, first it was the Bin Laden tape, then it was The Iraq War, then it was the Swiftboat Vets, now it is Disenfranchisement? This guy is still all over the place!
John, it was YOU! YOU, JOHN! We did not want YOU to be our President! It is that simple! You! You! You!
I hear all of these accusations about 'people being disenfranchised', yet I never here or see these people.
Kerry's a sore loser, period. Every day I thank God that clown didn't win.
Whether Kerry really believes this or is just plain lying thru' his teeth (who wants to take odds that it's the latter?), this strikes me as the height of low class and unseemliness to be bringing up this inflammatory stuff during inauguration week.
It really isn't worth commenting on anymore, they are going to bitch and moan until they win again and we just have to learn to deal with it I guess.
John who?
Didn't Tom DeLay say something to the effect that it wasn't good to be making such charges frivolously because if and when there actually is fraud, noone will pay attention? Makes me almost wish our side would perpetrate an obvious (yet w/o enough proof to be prosecutable) fraud so that the dems would scream and holler, but noone would pay any attention since they've cried wolf once too often.
"Won't someone shut that man up!"
Line from "1776"
People this out of touch with reality are likely to have their own inauguration as though they won.
I've lost track. Is this a flip or a flop?
I will personally pay for John sKerry's first-class airfare to come to Warren County, Ohio, and repeat this BS in an open, public forum. I cannot begin to count the number of people who waited many hours to vote-- this in a county that gave President Bush over 70% of the vote!
LOL!!! the don't realize that the real voters (not dead ones) in Ohio probably don't take well to his false accusations, all their blathering does is further cement the republican vote in OHIO.
John Kerry is such a liar. He KNOWS he is lying through his teeth. He'll say ANYTHING to save face.
How does he look at himself in the mirror every morning?
I guess Kerry is going to be like Clinton and Gore...they are never going away!
Just the beginning of a temper tantrum by a spoiled man playing little boy games. Maybe, just maybe, if we are lucky, he will hold his breath until he turns blue.
