Cat Frozen To Fence Saved By Woman, Grandkids

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Here is proof that cats really have nine lives.

One cold morning while in the backyard of a Nebraska homeowner Ruth Bogenreif, a cat was taking a drink out of a heated bird bath. Something apparently startled the cat and she jumped, wet paws and all, onto a chain link fence.

In freezing temperatures, the cats small feet froze instantly to the metal.

"He was hanging with his paws froze to the fence. His head, the back of his neck, was in the water," said Bogenreif.

Using warm water, Bogenreif and her grandchildren freed the cat from the metal and then turned it over to the local shelter.

"She's not walking well on her right leg, we're assuming muscle paralysis at this point. Hopefully she'll be getting better as the swelling goes down," said Pam Wiese with the Humane Society.

When I first read the title I read shaved instead of saved. Even though I'm no cat lover I thought it cruel to shave a frozen cat.

*This* is how you "check on" your ailing, under treatment patients, Dr. Heels? I know I shouldn't have called 1-800-doctors to find one.

When officers arrived the man was found in an unfortunate position. The man explained he was simply attempting to pee on his tongue which was stuck to the pole. Both organs were safely remove from the pole.

I know you are. And I'm feeling much better today, thanks to you! Laughter is the best medicine, and your medicine is tops. I'm on the run now...you have a GREAT day, Hi.

I see nothing funny about this story. Thankfully, the little cat was rescued, but your laughter only reveals your own innate cruelty. (Note to self: avoid this person.)

If the first reaction is to laugh, agreed. But, like when seeing a person take a fall and determining that no harm was done except to pride, laughing is not necessarily cruel. It can be a release of tension caused by concern.

A cat ACCIDENTLY got stuck on a fence. It wasn't nailed there by some sicko, it got there on it's own. It was rescued by Granny and her kids. Other than some stiffness that will probably go away, it is comfortable and in a safe place. Due to the news story that most animals do not have benefit of, it will probably go to a wonderful home. Someone read the story and laughed. Now we have postings about animal torture??? Bait dogs and pitbulls? Come on! I rescue animals. Have 6 dogs right now. I have pulled HUNDREDS of dogs from the pound. I laughed when I read the story. I laughed because animals get themselves in the silliest of circumstances, and no harm was done. It was funny. Relax a little.

So very well said with a voice of animal-compassioned reason and common sense.

I need a new disclaimer...

"No animals were harmed during the writing of this post...

...and I didn't even think of harming them...

...or laugh at the thought of harming them...

...or..."

;-)

I admire you for your kindness to animals. I have taken in strays as well. I despise the people who abuse animals. I am glad that laws have been passed that will hold them accountable so that they will be punished if caught. Boy, would I like to punish them. I know just what I would like to do to them, too..........

Lighten up Francis, it's a joke website.
You cat lovers around here are all wound a little tight, don't you think?
I made the comment (tongue in cheek) "Too bad it wasn't an electric fence", and recieved the following responses:
"You're mean. Mean people suck."
And by freepmail from a noob who shall go unnamed (for now):
"You're scum. People like you are a disgrace to FReep. Go pschitt somewhere else."
To both I reply "PHHHHHTTTTT".
============================================================

Now seems like a perfect time for me to tell a being-mean-to-a-cat story from my past, just for the cat lovers out there: Somewhere about 20 years ago me and my roommate were going out on the town, but just as we were walking out the door our other roommates cat darts outside. It was about -20 below zero, so we now had to retrieve the stupid cat before we could go anywhere, and we were already running late. I caught the cat a minute later and was bringing it up the sidewalk when I said to my roommate "Hey Dave, watch this", and I then tossed the cat about 5 feet into the air, where it then landed in the front yard filled with 3 feet of fresh powder snow. The cat completely disappeared and we could hear a muffled "mew" coming from somewhere underneath the snow. Right about then the cats owner (Daves sister) came running outside in her barefeet and nightgown saying "Damn you. Damn you." as she waded thru 3 feet of powder to retrieve her cat. She had seen the whole thing looking out the front window. THE END Now I believe in treating animals with kindness and respect right up until the moment I kill and eat them, but laughing at them once in a while isn't a bad thing. I wonder how cat tastes? Any freepers from Korea?
