State Route 18, particularly what is known as the "back way" into Big Bear is in real bad shape. The back way was real convenient if you live on that side of the mountain but now it is a very, very long drive to get to Big Bear.
The back route took you from about 2,500 feet elevation to about 5,500 feet in 15 minutes. It was a steep, winding drive. Now it is a steep, winding wash.
CalTrans says they do not know how long it will take to repair the road.

Too Bad, maybe your state's Legislature will raise you taxes to fix it.

I was in the area on business when all this happened. It was beyond ugly. A record storm, the wettest in history of Southern California. California is a sedimentary geology. It takes little to was things away and move things. These pics are but a tip of the iceburg....they have suffered alot of damage.
This will effect where people RE-build their homes and businesses.

Very funny --- :-)
Taxation in California is so excessive they could rebuild the state, if Davis and his liberal slime had not spent us into oblivion.

Wow, that looks just like the place Lois Lane got swallowed by an earthquake in Superman.

Is that your state's problem or should the rest of us bail CA out of it? What do you think? I would love to feel like we need to step in and help CA out of this BUT when is enough, enough.

What's the problem? Those look like normal roads in Michigan.

Wow, some parts of that highway look like it wasn't built too safe to begin with.

I am not sure who "WE" is, but California has been repairing its own natural disasters since day-one. The day that Calif. cannot handle its own issues financially, the stock market would have collapsed long before....

Maybe we ought to divert some of that tidal wave money which was targeted to Indonesia. They don't want our military ships in their waters; never mind that the Abraham Lincoln makes 90,000 gallons a day of fresh water, has hospitals and has an airstrip to get the help to the people. Basically, they're saying, "Give us your money and get lost!" My opinion? spend the money here, even if it IS California. SM (a Washington stater with CA overflow problems)

The only thing that federal funds would effect is U.S. (federally supported) highway damage (not state highways) -- which is true for any state in our country. So what is the beef and point??

I use to drive that road on occasion when I was a teenager - it always scared the pee outta me, but getting to Big Bear was worth it.
