Kerry said in an interview that he, Daschle, Reid and Boxer (IIRC) sat in Daschle's office, frozen, for about 40 minutes. They didn't know how to react. Finally, the WH (Cheney) called and told them to get out of the building and to a safe place.

I think Kerry was "unable to think" for 43 or so minutes afterwards. Funny thing is, no one would have dug that up if he hadn't criticized President Bush. He slung a boomerang, and it came right back and smacked him in the face!
