NBC NEWS TODAY SHOW CO-HOST KATIE COURIC HAS BEEN APPROACHED ABOUT CBS NEWS ANCHOR JOB, NETWORK SOURCE TELLS TIME Sun Jan 16 2005 11:00:51 ET

CBS Rumored to be Interested in ABC News Nightline Anchor Ted Koppel

--

CBS Rising Star Mika Brzezinski, Daughter of President Carter’s National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, is Dark Horse Candidate

--

CNN’s Anderson Cooper Could Be in Running

New York – Four CBS News staff members lost their jobs last week in the wake of an independent-panel report that found serious flaws in the journalism that led to a 60 Minutes Wednesday story about President Bush’s National Guard service. One person who keeps his job is Dan Rather—at least until his previously announced retirement as Evening News anchor takes place in March (he’ll continue to report for 60 Minutes). The denouement of CBS’s journalistic failure has cast a new light on the search for Rather’s successor, making it more likely, in the view of some, that the network will seek an outsider for the job, TIME’s Sean Gregory reports.

The latest handicapping:

Katie Couric A network source tells TIME the Today Show co-anchor has been approached about the job. If she could be persuaded to jump, CBS would have to wait 16 months—when her NBC contract is up. But the network could name an old hand like Face the Nation’s Bob Schieffer or Early Show host Harry Smith as a caretaker until then.

Ted Koppel The Nightline king’s contract ends later this year, and CBS is rumored to be interested in him. But would the ABC vet want the job? At least he wouldn’t have to worry about competing with Letterman.

John Roberts CBS’s chief White House correspondent was the early favorite and is still in the mix. But CBS insiders say the longer the search drags on, the less likely he will get the job.

Scott Pelley The 60 Minutes Wednesday correspondent is an ace reporter, but he may have hurt himself with comments to the New York Observer that seemed to disparage Roberts.

Mika Brzezinski The CBS correspondent (and daughter of President Carter’s National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski) is a dark horse candidate, possibly as part of an anchor team.

Anderson Cooper The rising CNN star (who also works for 60 Minutes Wednesday) could be in the running, especially if the long-rumored CNN-CBS merger moves ahead.

I hope they pick her. She'll be a complete disaster for CBS.
This just about proves the dumb-ass kooks running cBS have their heads up their behinds. They smell like it, too.

Couric would just accelerate their elimination

So you're saying she has sort of a "laxative" effect?

MSG to SeeBS: That lineup of potential candidates is pathetic.

MSG to Viacom: SeeBS doesn't know how to recruit.

MSG to Viacom shareholders: Sell.

More NBC Love For Jimmy Carter

by L. Brent Bozell III
October 6, 2004-CNSnews.com

It’s late in the campaign season, time for the networks to pull out all the stops promoting the greatness of the Democratic Party. But you can only stoop so low, right? You wouldn’t actually try to boost the reputation of the most discredited president in fifty years if he were a Democrat, would you? Oh yes, you would, if you’re NBC’s Katie Couric.

Katie has a long history of boosting former president Jimmy Carter, so much so that it was reported the Man from Plains thanked her personally when he won the Nobel Peace Prize. So on the occasion of Carter’s 80th birthday, Katie had a two-part interview with Carter to get his elder-statesman insights on just how much of a disaster is Iraq, and how John Kerry can beat that atrocious President Bush.

Ronnie: see new tagline.

PARTY GIRL KATIE COURIC CALLS IN 'SICK'
Drudge Report - January 30, 2002

NBC's TODAY show host Katie Couric called in sick on Tuesday, taking a rest
from her on-air duties.

"Katie's a bit under the weather," subhost Ann Curry informed disappointed
viewers.

Couric, who just became the highest paid person in the history of the news
business with a new multiyear, mulitmillion dollar contract, notified
producers that she was suffering from mild flu, according to sources.

Couric is paid an estimated $65,000 a day, under the new terms.

More than eyebrows were raised around NBC in New York City when photos
started to appear on the wires Tuesday evening taken at a party in Boston --
photos showing Couric partying it up with boyfriend, powerproducer Tom
Werner!

An estimated 800 movers and shakers gathered to celebrated the new owners of
the Boston Red Sox.

A smiling Werner likened himself to John F. Kennedy touring France with the
glamorous Jackie by his side. "I'm the man who accompanied Katie Couric to
this party tonight," he quipped onstage, paraphrasing JFK's famous remark.

The dynamic duo ate, drank, and made merry for hours.

"I thought she was sick!" blasted one low-ranked NBC employee. "With all the
budget cuts going on, with everyone cutting back, and doubling up... she
takes all the money -- and then calls in sick!!"

Couric did not return calls requesting comment.

Couric a journalist? She is more of a gossip columnist; a light weight even when she is at her liberal worst!

Another possibility is to not have a permanent anchor. I occasionally catch BBC World News and they seem to bring on a new news reader just when you become familiar with one of them. CBS could line up weekly guest news readers forever.

A shameless self plug. This was my comment at 4:05 yesterday morning and I just noticed the headline on Drudge. Maybe CBS is listening to me through my tin foil hat?
