NBC NEWS TODAY SHOW CO-HOST KATIE COURIC HAS BEEN APPROACHED ABOUT CBS NEWS ANCHOR JOB, NETWORK SOURCE TELLS TIME Sun Jan 16 2005 11:00:51 ET

---

CBS Rumored to be Interested in ABC News Nightline Anchor Ted Koppel

--

CBS Rising Star Mika Brzezinski, Daughter of President Carter’s National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, is Dark Horse Candidate

--

CNN’s Anderson Cooper Could Be in Running

New York – Four CBS News staff members lost their jobs last week in the wake of an independent-panel report that found serious flaws in the journalism that led to a 60 Minutes Wednesday story about President Bush’s National Guard service. One person who keeps his job is Dan Rather—at least until his previously announced retirement as Evening News anchor takes place in March (he’ll continue to report for 60 Minutes). The denouement of CBS’s journalistic failure has cast a new light on the search for Rather’s successor, making it more likely, in the view of some, that the network will seek an outsider for the job, TIME’s Sean Gregory reports.

The latest handicapping:

Katie Couric A network source tells TIME the Today Show co-anchor has been approached about the job. If she could be persuaded to jump, CBS would have to wait 16 months—when her NBC contract is up. But the network could name an old hand like Face the Nation’s Bob Schieffer or Early Show host Harry Smith as a caretaker until then.

Ted Koppel The Nightline king’s contract ends later this year, and CBS is rumored to be interested in him. But would the ABC vet want the job? At least he wouldn’t have to worry about competing with Letterman.

John Roberts CBS’s chief White House correspondent was the early favorite and is still in the mix. But CBS insiders say the longer the search drags on, the less likely he will get the job.

Scott Pelley The 60 Minutes Wednesday correspondent is an ace reporter, but he may have hurt himself with comments to the New York Observer that seemed to disparage Roberts.

Mika Brzezinski The CBS correspondent (and daughter of President Carter’s National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski) is a dark horse candidate, possibly as part of an anchor team.

Anderson Cooper The rising CNN star (who also works for 60 Minutes Wednesday) could be in the running, especially if the long-rumored CNN-CBS merger moves ahead.

Sounds like CBS is desperate for anyone to fill the job

Did anyone notice all of the CBS sports anchormen,(Dan Marino, Boomer, et el..) all sporting American flag lapel pins recently? Are they trying to send a message that they are CBS Sports, not the news dept.? Also heard Shannon Sharpe(or Sterling, not sure) refer to the West Coast teams as the Left Coast.

[Ask why? They're] All Friends of HILLARY..!!!!

August 25, 1998: The Clintons sailed for 90 minutes near Martha's Vineyard, an island off the Massachusetts mainland, with the man once known as "the most trusted man in America," veteran TV newsman Walter Cronkite, aboard Cronkite's blue-hulled Wyntje.

Earlier that year, Cronkite had said the media’s main purpose is to tell people what they need to know, not just what they want to know – a tenet he said journalists often stray from. [Cronkite urges truth over profit.]. This was at a Bernard Kalb conference on ethics in journalism!

Lib-hugging, Katie Courage on CBS (Clearly Biased Stories)? What an excellent idea! Ol' Dan "Rather" Biased to replaced by ex-news "stories" producer Perky Katie!

Hmmmm, Lib-hugging Mary Mapes was Ol' Dan's news "stories" producer - - - you don't suppose that Mary put in a good word for Katie, do you?

Mika Brzezinski! Wow, she's really come up in the world since she left WFSB. Saw her briefly when she was on MSNBC then lost track of her after that. Thanks for the ping.

And now for a...
Modern Day Journey thru our New CLARITY Media:

Thanks to...

-Newsmax.com's CARL LIMBACHER
-Judicial Watch's Talk Radio Show
-One Freeper Caller

...we were all reminded that:

1) The CLINTONS used a Media Photo taken of their own smiling selves sailing together on WALTER CRONKITE's Sailboat at Martha's Vineyard...

...as a loving display of Family unity behind a President who had just confessed MONICA-GATE on National TV after his White House Impeachment deposition.

2) This same smiling CLINTON Family Photo taken on WALTER CRONKITE's saling boat ended up biting HILLARY in the tail after she tried to tell us all in her new Book of Lies titled 'Living History'...

...that the only one in the First Family that would have anything to do with BILL CLINTON for months after his MONICA-GATE TV confession...

...was Buddy the Dog.

...While Newsmax.com Columnist CARL LIMBACHER was guesting on 'The Judicial Watch Report' Talk Radio Show, a Freeper called in to remind him of this very telling CLINTON Family Photo that exposes one more HILLARY Lie in her new Book. This really clicked with CARL who went on to find this Photo and then publish it on Newsmax.com.

Newsmax.com Founder CHRIS RUDDY then immediately went on National News and Discussion TV Shows to further publicize this HILLARY Book Lie just exposed thru her own Media Photo.

HILLARY was so put on the defensive about the veracity of her new Book by this suddenly re-emerging Photo that she felt compelled to make a point of trying to explain its very existance away while guesting on 'The DAVID LETTERMAN Show' and CNN's 'LARRY KING-Live' TV Interview Show. To no avail, I might add.

Welcome to our New World, HILLARY, the Water's just fine.

And our Beloved Free Country is the better for it.

I think CBS is looking at the numbers...and quietly coming to the conclusion that if they want to compete against FOX news...they have to get a conservitive type news guy. Lets face facts...Fox has got the numbers, and Peter Jennings will likely be number two in the ratings game after Browkaw and Rather leave. If CBS wanted to take charge...they need a real conservitive type to take charge and run the news division. After the whole episode with Danny-boy and the Bush memo...they are rethinking the political situation that they fell into...and need to climb out of.

Agree about Perky Katie.....but she was sure depressed the day after the election. Wearing black.......so despondent.

CBS is clueless.

Does anybody hereabouts really give a chit who replaces Dan Rather? It's a dying medium. Let it die!

Drudge gets it right, on occasion.

Though, I highly doubt that they would award Stossel that piece of prime time real estate.

The howls of outrage from the left would be too great for a feckless network executive like Les Moonves to withstand.

If these folks were too timorous to remove Andrew Heyward, I'm very skeptical of the notion that they would pull the trigger on a blockbuster deal that would bring one of the best-and most ostracized-investigative reporters into the CBS fold.

Basically, I'm not holding my breath.

Look for Scott Pelley to emerge victorious from this ragtag pack of journalistic mediocrities.

I've never seen Mr. Cooper, but he looks brooding and a trifle mysterious. Ms. Couric is a vile true believer, though her smile and rhetoric veils her true nature. We shall see how CBS postpones its downfall.

I've been saying for a while, that if they want their ratings up, they need to get someone from FOX.
Be honest, wouldn't you start watching CBS again if Brit Hume or Tony Snow was hosting?
