I find this amusing. Most Americans won't care who they pick because they're not going to watch it anyway.

Hopefully CBS will wash down the drain.

Replace "wash" with flush.

Koppel? People forget this 'reporter's treatment of John O'Neill on that infamous episode of Nightline. He kept trying to get O'Neill to say something that the guy didn't believe, and would never have said. And Koppel got mad when O'Neill would not dutifully act as Koppel's mouthpiece. He's just a thinner version of Rather.

I think ssseeetheBS is missing a sure bet. Natasha Henstridge, from She Spies. In fact, the whole cast. Henstridge on the anchor desk, Williams at large, and Miller as the Whitehouse reporter. Heck - I'd find them credible.

"The denouement of CBS’s journalistic failure has cast a new light on the search for Rather’s successor, making it more likely, in the view of some, that the network will seek an outsider for the job, TIME’s Sean Gregory reports."

So they're considering Couric? Yow. They need to be searching for A Clue.

Actually, I called this some time ago -- that they'd try to hire K.C. -- although I can see how Koppel may have some appeal, because Letterman's his buddy. ;')

It doesn't matter who they put out front - what really matters is that the decisions are coming down from the top - which is obviously rotten to the core.

To approve the FORGED information which are total lies about a sitting President to be presented as FACTUAL - that's the real problem.

I believe Ann referred to her as, "an affable Eva Braun".

NO NO NO NO NO - IF TONY SNOW WENT TO CBS - THAT WOULD BE THE END OF MY WORLD AS I KNOW IT.

Perhaps BUCKHEAD?

He would be the perfect choice in my opinion. Would really straighten out the place.

Laura Ingraham said that an inside source told her that Diane Sawyer is seriously being considered. Also, Roberts and Pelley are apparently out of the running since neither one of them filled in for Rather the night the results of the investigation were announced. Instead, Bob Schieffer was the substitute anchor that night.

She cries on air better than Rather when Republicans win elections.

All non-CBSers named are under contract elsewhere. There will be no "interim" 16-month anchor. Demographics will drive a younger while male.

Viacom could always pull someone from their other channels:

Couric is a twerp.

Her work as a "correspondent" or "newsreader" or morning show host is vastly overrated.

I hate to be so cynical and jaded, but the fact that she was widowed at such a young age was a career enhancement.

Her leftwing bias is even more transparent than Rather's, but that might be a good thing.

They might as well hire Chevy Chase to read the news. Both Chevy and perky would have the same eventual outcome. you would think with so much past experience with these type disasters that these people would already know the eventual outcome and look two or three steps ahead of the game and save the millions of dollars that will be lost.
