CNNs Anderson Cooper Could Be in Running
New York Four CBS News staff members lost their jobs last week in the wake of an independent-panel report that found serious flaws in the journalism that led to a 60 Minutes Wednesday story about President Bushs National Guard service. One person who keeps his job is Dan Ratherat least until his previously announced retirement as Evening News anchor takes place in March (hell continue to report for 60 Minutes). The denouement of CBSs journalistic failure has cast a new light on the search for Rathers successor, making it more likely, in the view of some, that the network will seek an outsider for the job, TIMEs Sean Gregory reports.
The latest handicapping:
Katie Couric A network source tells TIME the Today Show co-anchor has been approached about the job. If she could be persuaded to jump, CBS would have to wait 16 monthswhen her NBC contract is up. But the network could name an old hand like Face the Nations Bob Schieffer or Early Show host Harry Smith as a caretaker until then.
Ted Koppel The Nightline kings contract ends later this year, and CBS is rumored to be interested in him. But would the ABC vet want the job? At least he wouldnt have to worry about competing with Letterman.
John Roberts CBSs chief White House correspondent was the early favorite and is still in the mix. But CBS insiders say the longer the search drags on, the less likely he will get the job.
Scott Pelley The 60 Minutes Wednesday correspondent is an ace reporter, but he may have hurt himself with comments to the New York Observer that seemed to disparage Roberts.
Mika Brzezinski The CBS correspondent (and daughter of President Carters National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski) is a dark horse candidate, possibly as part of an anchor team.
Anderson Cooper The rising CNN star (who also works for 60 Minutes Wednesday) could be in the running, especially if the long-rumored CNN-CBS merger moves ahead.
Developing...
Judging by the fact that ABC kept Brit Hume on the sidelines for years, I wouldn't hold-out any hope for Stossel either.
There is no way they will ever listen to me but if they want unbiased news reading from a credible news reader, Brian Lamb would be their man. Let's face it, though, it's not about news reading anymore - it's about slant.
Another possibility is to not have a permanent anchor. I occasionally catch BBC World News and they seem to bring on a new news reader just when you become familiar with one of them. CBS could line up weekly guest news readers forever.
How about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler from Saturday Night Live? Or a Tina Fey - Jimmy Fallon co-anchorship. Going this route will allow CBS to uphold their fine tradition of not being a credible news source.

Biography
Jimmy Fallon performed on his final SNL show after six seasons in May of 2004. He has a wide variety of accomplishments to his name, most notibly co-anchoring 'Weekend Update'. In the 2000-01 season he became co-anchor of the shows acclaimed fake-news segment opposite SNL head writer Tina Fey. During his time on the show, Jimmy has performed memorable impressions including Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, John Lennon, and Howard Stern. His skills at mimicry venture into the musical with impressions of Alanis Morissette, Eminem, Blink 182 and Counting Crows. In addition, Fallon performs as the Bostonian teen Sully opposite Rachel Dratchs Denise; as condescending Nick Burns, Your Companys Computer Guy, the online collegiate talk show host Jarrett of Jarretts Room and as the too-cool clerk of ultra-high fashion boutique Jeffreys. Fallon's first major film lead came in the fall of 2004 in the comedy Taxi opposite Queen Latifah. The film focuses on a mouthy cab driver (Latifah) who has hot tips for a green cop (Fallon) set on solving a string of bank robberies. He was recently seen in Woody Allens Anything Else with Jason Biggs and Christina Ricci as well as the Oscar-Award winning feature film, Almost Famous and HBOs highly acclaimed miniseries, Band of Brothers. He received a Grammy nomination in 2003 for his comedy record The Bathroom Wall. He continues to perform stand-up across the country with regular appearances at the Improv and Carolines Comedy Club in New York, to name a few.
I would prefer Norm McDonald, myself.
:)
-good times, G.J.P.(Jr.)
That's more like it...eh?
the reason is that ALL big names in MSM today are liberal, so any list of them is going to be liberal
what would be really revolutionary would be to go for a conservative commentator or reporter like Mark Steyn or Charles Krauthammer. It won't happen though, but we should all be glad. In 3-5 years I'm guessing CBS will be out of the news business, maybe all the major networks will be, farming it out to their cable subsidiaries like MSNBC or CNN/CBS merging.
What Katie thinks of you if you disagree with her .....Katie Couric
WARNING!: She's a bad girl in this pic ! (not nudity)

Bump for Steyn!

I'd watch the CBS Evening News if they hired Britt Hume or John Siegenthaler
I saw Cooper give some religious topics good, even coverage some time ago. I was impressed. If it wasn't for FNC, I would watch his show.
replacing one liberal socialist with another............Hopefully CBS will wash down the drain.
