These blind and incapacitated sheiks seem to cause a lot of trouble. The Israelis took out Hamas' Sheik Yassin. I also remember some crippled sheik associated with UBL.
Why not what?
I don't believe that someone who is supposedly part of an operation with a sizable budget would try to reclaim a $100 deposit, and not even have the vehicle he rented to return. I know Arabs are legendarily stupid, but not that stupid. (I also don't believe that McVeigh's license plate just happened to fall off, and then the police held him for more than a day before someone decided he had something to do with the OK City bombing.)
Yassin was supported by the Hamas infrastructure, which sort of makes my point about Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman. He wasn't an independent operator.
I don't really need to have alternatives to know what is not true.

"Yassin was supported by the Hamas infrastructure, which sort of makes my point about Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman. He wasn't an independent operator."
Yassin (and Rahman) were the "spiritual" leaders and as such determined the operation. The infrastucture was answerable to them.
(The thought of spirituality in the same sentence as murderers like Yassin and Rahman is enough to make me choke.)
I can well see your point about the deposit and McVeigh's license plate. I can believe they were set up or were shaheeds to take the fall to cover for others. But I do believe the sheik's were behind it.
