Guns and Jeers Used by Gangs to Buy Silence

OSTON, Jan. 15 - In Boston, a witness to a shooting by a member of a street gang recently found copies of his grand jury testimony taped to all the doors in the housing project where he lives.

In Baltimore, Rickey Prince, a 17-year-old who witnessed a gang murder and agreed to testify against the killer, was shot in the back of the head a few days after a prosecutor read Mr. Prince's name aloud in a packed courtroom.

And in each city, CD's and DVD's titled "Stop Snitching" have surfaced, naming some people street gangs suspect of being witnesses against them and warning that those who cooperate with the police will be killed. To underscore its message, the Baltimore DVD shows what appears to be three dead bodies on its back cover above the words "snitch prevention."

These are only a few examples of what the police, prosecutors and judges say is a growing national problem of witness intimidation by youth gangs that in some cities is jeopardizing the legal system and that bears striking similarities to the way organized crime has often silenced witnesses.

Closest I ever got to Aikido was by reading In Search of the Warrior Spirit by Richard Strozzi Heckler

Aikido sounds neat, but I don't have the time to learn that artform/discipline. Some days, it's hard enough to make time to not be a sheeple.

Warrior? dunno. I haven't been tested, yet.

Brother we ALL have that problem! I'm making time to go back to it. IF you can find just an hour or two to devote to it a week and IF you can find a dojo (school) near you, the dividends are tremendous. For starters it is excellent exercise, even for us old farts....maybe especially. Plus it will make you limber and that's a great thing for keeping your youth. It will invigorate you and help you focus on whatever task you must face.

There are many forms of testing. I think if you've ever just done the right thing because it was the right thing to do....you're a warrior. Simple acknowledgment of the power of evil in the world and an inward assertion of which side you STAND for, makes you a warrior. Actual physical confrontation and victory makes you a master warrior. OK?

Convince your enemy that you are irrational.

Irrational? My students are 100% convinced that I'm flat out PSYCHO. It does help.

Well, at least they have displayed a tremendous grasp of the obvious, my friend. :)

Not exactly. Some do the right thing for the wrong reason. Others do the right thing, and lose (their life, their liberty, their home, their family).

Seems to me, I'd have to do the right thing, for the right reasons, and win. Last time I stood up to wrong, I lost.

There are many forms of testing.

reckon I was tested; and lost. Losing isn't warrior, losing is sheep. Although, in my defense; I couldn't afford to win. Justice isn't cheap...
