Thank you, Ted Nugent!
I wonder if he'll play "Wang Dang, Sweet...."? Should go over well with the locals. ;)
As the only Texas high school band invited by Bush to the inauguration, the 26 members and 10 sponsors needed to raise about $48,000 to fly to the nation's capital.
FYI
Crawford will never be the same...
For the Austin crowd-ping
Nugent always puts his talent where his heart is. He's a man of principle and a true conservative.
Rocker Nugent to play benefit to help Crawford band
By Mike Anderson - Tribune-Herald staff writer Tuesday, January 11, 2005
Crawford High School band members will get a little help from the "Motor City Madman" in their quest to participate in President Bush's Jan. 20 inaugural parade.
Ted Nugent will play a benefit concert Saturday night at the Crawford High School gym, with proceeds going to help pay for band members to travel to Washington, D.C., for next week's inauguration. Nugent moved to McLennan County from his longtime residence in Michigan about a year ago.
Crawford Independent School District officials announced the concert Monday after meeting with Nugent's wife, Shemane, who made the offer on behalf of her rock-star husband.
"We were approached by the Nugents, who said they wanted to do something for the school and community," said Superintendent Kevin Noack. "I think it's pretty neat. I'd say not every community in the state of Texas has a resident celebrity who is willing to step forward and do something for the community."
Noack added, laughing, that he probably owned a few of Nugent's recordings on 8-track when he was in college.
Crawford is the only high school band from Texas invited to participate in the event. Earlier this month school officials said they were about $10,000 short of the roughly $35,000 goal to pay the band's airfare, hotel and meal costs.
Noack said Monday the band remained "thousands" of dollars short of its goal, but that he is confident the benefit show will "put them over the top."
Shemane Nugent says after she recently learned about the band's need, she suggested he play a show. She added jokingly, "I really had to twist his arm." She said her husband is due to begin rehearsing for a tour with county artist Toby Keith that is set to begin in Tulsa on the same day as the inauguration.
"It's going to be treated as a jam with his band before the tour," Shemane Nugent said.
Tickets are set to go on sale today at Lone Star Music & Sound Co., at 914 Lake Air Drive. Tickets cost $20, with about 750 available, Noack said. An additional 50 tickets will be on sale at $80 each for people who want to have their pictures taken with "The Nuge," he said. The show is set to begin at 8 p.m.

BTTT
Ted, you are a GREAT American!
For band nerds (former) everywhere, thank you, Mr Nugent!!
As Sean Hannity would say, "He's a Great American!"
As the band director in a small band program in a neighboring state, I wish to say thank you to Nugent. Small bands like this just don't get such opportunities. This is a trip those band kids will never forget.
Another reason to like the Motor City Madman!
