A day in the life of President Bush (photos) 1/15/05

President and Mrs. Bush did not make any public appearances today as the prepare for this week's 2nd Inaugural. The President proclaimed Sunday as National Sanctity of Human Life Day and Religious Freedom Day.

Today's Presidential Radio Address dealt with the issue of Social Security. For those interseted in reading the entire transcript (it's not long), click here: whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/01/20050115.html

QUOTE OF THE DAY: When President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in 1935, the average life expectancy was about 60 years, which meant that most Americans would not live to become eligible for benefits, then set at age 65.

Today, most Americans enjoy longer lives and longer retirements. And that presents a looming challenge. Because Social Security was created as a pay-as-you-go system, current retirees are supported by the taxes paid by current workers. Unfortunately, the ratio of workers to retirees is falling steadily. In the 1950s, there were about 16 workers paying in for each person drawing out. Today, it's about three workers for every beneficiary. And by the time today's workers in their mid 20s begin to retire, there will be just over two.

I'm never going to be able to say your screen name, nor spell it or be able to type it!

Hoosierpearl, you don't have to type it or remember how to spell it. You can always just copy and paste it. Personally, I welcome anyone who shares my appreciation for GWB, so I'll enjoy interacting with them no matter what screen name they choose.

Awesome picture! I just love how in "casual" pictures his collar is always crooked, or buttons not quite right, or something not quite perfect . . . you KNOW he hasn't let Laura check him over before he left to go out in public. LOL!

I agree with you considering he is nearly 64 and his health history he does look wonderful. I had said it before but IMHO he has hardly aged at all over the last 4 years which is incredible if you consider the stress and pressure he has been under.

I think the old adage works here you can cope with stress at work if you have a good home life and you only have to look at a few pictures or clips with him and Lynne and it obvious that they have a good and fulfilling home life and as you said 4 lovely grandchildren to enjoy.

All of this makes the RAT and MSM attacks on him regarding his health all the more ridiculous I would like some of them to keep to his schedule.

Also talking of age and looks the most incredible thing is that Lynne herself will be 64 in July regardless of all the assistance you can have to keep looking younger if you have the money it is her attitude to life that portrays her younger. She is quick witted lively and has the most lovely winning smile (especially when looking at her husband - not bad after 40 years). Again this speaks volumes about the VP and shows again he cannot be the evil things that the MSM make out he is.

Sorry to go on but I do hate how the press malign and miss represent good honest hard working loyal people yet praise to the hilt womanizing, cheating, unethical rakes such as Clinton.

This pic is wonderful but I don't know when it was taken. (I'm Italian). Can you tell me?

Good day, "an Italian." I hope all is well with you and your country. The photo in post #153 was taken shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. If my memory serves, it was the next day. The President had invited the media into the Oval Office in the White House for a brief press conference. In response to a question, tears came to the President's eyes. He didn't cry, but momentarily choked up as he spoke of his feelings about the attacks and his determination to protect this country.

Good afternoon 5.15pm in UK LOL. I agree with you regarding the President and Laura aging gracefully. I know some of it is in the genes if you look at GWB parents and Laura's mum but it also how you live your life and how content you are in your homelife. It is obvious that the President lives a good clean life and is very content at home and it does show.

I don't know how old you are, but on the days I get fed up with the kids, hubby, dogs, cats, cows, bills, cold weather, etc., etc., etc. sometimes I fantasize about joining up to see the far off places of the world . . . but then saw the stipulation that "IF YOU'RE UNDER THE AGE OF 35 CALL TODAY" and I'll tell you, it really cut like a knife that I'm TOO OLD and can't escape that way anymore!

OTOH I WAS carded a few weeks ago when I went to buy wine coolers . . . (almost went back for another pack of them just to see if she'd card me again!) :-)

What is carded I presume it is being questioned about your age and asking for proof it that correct?

RE: the pic of the Pres. tearing up . . . the question was something like, "What prayers do you have for yourself in this time of crisis?" His answer, "I don't think of myself, I think of the children . . . " (this is where he teared up and then quickly finished the answer the question and left the room).

please forgive me...didn't realize it was against the rules for this thread...

Bitt, don't worry. All is well. There are no hard-and-fast rules, just preferences. About the only true rule is that the people who put up the thread prefer no one posts photos and images until they finish getting all the day's photos up. This saves time and prevents duplicates.

As for photos of the opposition, it happens from time to time. But the general preference, reached by consensus of the many people who frequent the Dose threads, is that these threads be kept free of them. There are plenty of other threads where such material can be posted and discussed.

The Dose threads are more like a Dubya and Dick Cheney fan club, where we focus on what the President, VP, and their families and pets are up to daily.

Being carded is something you dread if you're under 21, and love to have happen if you're over 30!

Yes, it's being asked for proof of your age. Here in NE (and I think most of the US) you can't buy alcohol unless you're 21 or over. In a few months I will celebrate the 17th anniversary of my 21st b-day, so needless to say I was quite thrilled that the clerk wasn't sure I was even 21!!

Isn't it fabulous to know we have a President who can "nudge" someone (like many of us do) and enjoy a good laugh?

Good day, Truthy. Hope all is well with you. I love this photo also. It makes me happy just to see him so happy. These four years are going to speed by far too quickly, sigh. I wish I could bottle what Dubya has done for this country, because we're going to need it in the future.

...you KNOW he hasn't let Laura check him over before he left to go out in public. LOL!

Laura probably gives it a rest when he is down home in Crawford, LOL. You can't much more real looking than that man is in that picture, I love the knee patch, can't help wondering who patched those jeans. Real man all the way.

And yes, snugs, I do like blue jeans, and I like real rugged-looking men in down home working clothes! ;-0 I guess I like it partly because it's just so anti-Washington.

The pictures of the VP that I like best are the ones of him in blue jeans and casual shirts - and boots, ya gotta love the boots! I guess all this just got imprinted on me young.

Thanks for the great photo, JustaCowgirl. I love the patch. Wherever that photo was taken, it looks cold. I wonder if he was visiting a National Guard unit somewhere in one of our northern states.

Sounds like you're having bitterly cold, but dry weather. No snow or rain. Not good for a drought-stricken area. I hope it breaks soon for you.

I get the feeling that's either a crane or some sort of well-digging equipment in the background. I'm thinking that was taken at Crawford and they were doing some work there. But I'm just guessing. That looks pretty cold for Crawford.

Yes there is something about jeans and boots that somehow make a man seem more masculine though sometimes the suits and ties can be a turn on I suppose it is all to do with what mood you are in - rough and rugged or sophisticated.

I have noticed that quite often the both the President and the VP wear boots even with their business suits. I also have a friend who says that he cannot often find shoes that are as comfortable as the cowboy type boots and he very often wears them even with a suit. I wonder if comfort is the reason with GWB and the VP.

There was a picture in Time, when he was POTY, of he and Laura in their private elevator, and she was brushing off the front of his suit, looked like to get lint or maybe dog hair off. There's also a really neat picture of the two if them in the hallway of the Texas Capitol, the night he "officially" won the election. She is straightening his tie, with a bunch of people looking on.
