President and Mrs. Bush did not make any public appearances today as the prepare for this week's 2nd Inaugural. The President proclaimed Sunday as National Sanctity of Human Life Day and Religious Freedom Day.
Today's Presidential Radio Address dealt with the issue of Social Security. For those interseted in reading the entire transcript (it's not long), click here: whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/01/20050115.html
QUOTE OF THE DAY: When President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in 1935, the average life expectancy was about 60 years, which meant that most Americans would not live to become eligible for benefits, then set at age 65.
Today, most Americans enjoy longer lives and longer retirements. And that presents a looming challenge. Because Social Security was created as a pay-as-you-go system, current retirees are supported by the taxes paid by current workers. Unfortunately, the ratio of workers to retirees is falling steadily. In the 1950s, there were about 16 workers paying in for each person drawing out. Today, it's about three workers for every beneficiary. And by the time today's workers in their mid 20s begin to retire, there will be just over two.

***Yes, it means (literally), Thunderstorm Girl, good call!***
Ooops, I see you answered already. I should have kept my reading up to date.
DANG!!! I've never seen that one before.
Cheney has class Kerry does not.
It wouldn't have to be an animated gif, just the bolts pasted over his eyes--like that pic of Rumsfeld where he's shooting a bolt out of his finger.
Good evening Phancy hope you had a good day
You are definately right, my dear.
What possessed you!? :)
There was a fabulous picture in the Dallas Morning News today that was taken at the 60th anniversary of the elder Bushes. It showed the whole clan... and a great looking bunch they are.
The Prez (43-44) was in front center, with cowboy boots on. Everyone was dressed to the teeth and in tuxes. It was so cute, but I don't know how to find it or post it.
Did anyone else see it? (I think it was January 6th)
Wow! I'm impressed and amazed.
How'd you do that so fast. the pic was bigger in the paper but not in color.
By the way, did anyone hear Laura mentioned that they will probably move to Dallas after the second term. (it will be an additional location to the ranch)
I can't wait to run into him at the grocery store ...
Or maybe Bubba could meet Barney and Miz Beazley at the dog park. Bubba loves little dogs. He likes to roll them over and see what they're made of.
Is this the photo this one was posted on the dose on 6th January 2005?

Should have pressed refresh before I posted LOL
I just finished State of Fear also. It's so reassuring to have all that enviro-whacko propaganda propaganda put into scientific perspective. Someone should give Robert Redford a copy.
Good evening!
I had a great day, the Pittsburgh Steelers won in football so I'll survive :-)
We're getting ready for the Inaugural (despite some nervousness) and I can't wait!
How are you doing?
Yeah, thanks, snugs, can't believe I missed it. I always read the dose even if it's a day later.
I think that's his Harvard yearbook photo.
Hubba-hubba.
I got my invitation today, but I have a feeling they're not expecting me.
Welcome! Hope to see you here often.
